prepending a $ (or an @, for that matter) to a variable name looks gay
'end', '}', 'fi', etc, to end a code block is also gay

Java as the end-all of languages, you have to be kidding. Does this mean I should get used to typing
((Integer)vector[i]).intValue()
Hey, it's dynamic typing with all of the unsafety and none of the convenience.

I'm not really sure what Ruby is since I've never used it but I'm sure it really sucks. If you are thinking about using Ruby then you should use C# instead. See, C# takes the best features of C, C++, Java and Smalltalk and combines them into one uberlanguage. There is no arguement, C# is THE BEST language any way you look at it:
For Embedded Systems: It's saves time using the 'new' operator rather than malloc.
For Networks: C# has winsock functions as part of its included package so you don't have to buy expensive libraries.
Web Programming: Using namespaces will save you TONS of time. It's a real pain typing out java.this.that.blah.yah.foo.bar.add(x).
And for those of you that say "hey, C# isn't open", YES IT IS! Anyone can make a C# compiler, the standards are totally open. Microsoft was just the first. That's right, while you commies were arguing over penguins and conspiracies, Microsoft was out there INNOVATING. C# is a real innovation for all you naysayers and bashers. So go move your red commie asses to Cuba already!

In conclusion, C# is number one.
So when are we going to see this at ICFP? Oh wait, we already did, all the ruby entries failed.
