Radiation Storm Lets You Listen Long-Distance

bubblegoose writes: "There is a large radiation storm in progress caused by a solar flare on the backside of the Sun. Here's a story from Spaceweather. It has a pretty cool effect on radio signals. I was picking up a 6000 Watt North Carolina FM station from near Philly." Bubblegoose also brings you this link to dxing.com, a site all about listening in when freak atmospheric conditions create unusual RF propagation patterns.

    for long distance communication but it's only available outside the US. (government regulations etc.. you understand)
    We call it 'long wave' frequency broadcast.

    I picked him up from Philly too.
    he is actually from Mars but solar flare kicked his ass to Earth. - cool!

    yesterday around 8 am my car raido sucked. every channel had static and hiss. i thouhgt my antenna had come disconnected or somesuch. made a joke to my dad about the cause being discharge from a solar flare. having put off looking for the prob today the reception is clear. then i read this. kinda disturbing.
