ASCI's Debutante Debut

yoshi writes "Apparently, Lawrence Livermore Lab had an open house yesterday for ASCI White, the world's most powerful computer, and CNN has a story on it, including a picture of one of the sys admins! One of the great things about the system is how much information is available. Check out the hardware and software environments."

      First and third post... is it just me or is there something not right here?

      I've been reading slashdot since.... well... since Rob owned it and 20 comments was considered 'a lot', yet this is the first time I have been able to claim first post.

    It makes deleting comments easier. In old times, if there had been a story without a #1 comment, or even #2 or #3, it would have been obvious something was deleted. With the new system, it will be much easier for people like michael to delete what they don't like without anybody noticing.

    Has it occurred to you that th e y not only seriously harm readability, but that they are also totally fucking worthless since people will just keep using the same tricks that already work for obscuring [goatse.cx] links?

    Ok, Linux is nice for little servers, rendering farms, geek hobby setups, etc.... but do you seriously think that it's a viable alternative for a machine like this? Hell, Linux has enough trouble with scaling up to 4 or more processors without serious performance preoblems, and this thing has 16 processors PER NODE!
