I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Turly an American icon.

there is a backdoor in slashdot, you just add "Taco rulez" written in any permutation of uppercase/lowercase letters, like "taCo rulEz", "taCO rulEZ" etc. You must write it by hand 'cos there is this javascript thing in slashdot which checks copy/paste. The "taco rulez" is automatically hidden by the backdoor. You can post anything with this even goatse without the stupid [goase.cx]. All ascii trolls are doing it this way. I can post this here 'cos Taco can't remove it anyway because the code is liked to the "bitchslapping" code and removing would screw up whole slashdot.

It's the best thing going for the future. commodity hardware will be serving big iron tasks
more and more as time rolls forward. Linux developement occurs so fast that it's like a dynamic glove on the rapidly changing contours of the computing industry. No other OS can keep up
such a frenetic pace for so long, for any cost. The computing world at large is not aware of this right now, but they will be. It's a forgone conclusion.
Bone up on your skills people. Also, spend some time researching potential employers and resist the urge to work with scumbags. These are times that forge the future and it will be good for the strong amongst us to avoid adding their strength to unethical companies. All the post MSCE goldrush people will be putting on a Linux hat in the near future. Let them settle into the fabric of such companies.
