Blizzard Announces New Warcraft MMORPG

An anonymous reader wrote in to say that "Blizzard Entertainment makers of the enormously popular Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo series, have announced their next game: World of Warcraft, a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game set in the famous Warcraft universe. Gamespot has an extensive preview available complete with screens and loads of info on the game." It looks very pretty. I still want the Star Wars MMORPG to rock my world tho.

Unless they plan to release a linux version of the client (something Blizzard hasn't ever expressed interest in). I won't be playing this MMORPG.

Of course they're not going to. This game is designed for the masses, and for the company to make money. The company is not a charity, and making a linux version would be a money losing venture (my guess is it would be a HUGE loss). So if you want to game, why not just pick up a real computer with a real gaming OS? Stop whining that companies don't make games for your non-gaming, small-market, no-profit OS. Yeesh.

So, in order to play this game, I need to be connected to a Blizzard Server, rather then one of the matching servers ?

Considering that Blizzard is *the* leading game company when it comes to running spyware on their users computers, I think it will be a cold day in hell before I buy this game. Remember when it was discovered that they were trying to grab personal information from the registry "to improve security for you ?"

Or Verant scanning your harddrive to see if certain other software programs were present "to improve the gaming experience for you"

But the MMORPG Genre is so addictive that I'm sure that whatever PR Disaster they make for themselves will be instantly forgiven so that people can keep logging in to push the pellet dispencer another 200 or 300 times

    Blizzard and Starcraft

    Verant and Everquest
