I like to watch.
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.
Anyone care to give us an explaination on why /. was hosed all day?
Was it slashcode 2.2?
Database again?

maybe yous should consider going gack to slash 1.x or whatever was the last stable, WORKING version of slashcode. If that fails why don't you try moving to Scoop. It works for kuro5hin.
The new slashcode really sucks. How many hours of downtime did we experience today? Corrupt databases, slower then normal response times, and that stupid filter... Come on taco. Downgrade /. or we will revolt.
I would suggest it not use slashcode, as it seems to not work fairly frequently....
VA Linux and RedHat stock both hit all-time lows today, with VA Linux at one point all the way down to 1.05 per share. Delisting isn't very far off. Slashdot, we hardly knew ye.

Why is slashdot broken? What is wrong with slashcode? You have a responsibility to tell the people that use the code what the problems are. Or are you going to do the M$ thing and pretend the problem(s) doesn't(don't) exist?
It is offensive to say that there are problems with Slashcode. We all know that open source software is extremely reliable. You, sir, are obviously a troll, to fly in the face of what all right-thinking people acknowledge.

The conference sucked ...
Let's just look at the numbers. At 54, he's no spring chicken. Last month there were 537 posts to usenet about Stephen King. While during the same period on the irc channel #trollbag, newbies were dircted to go to gatse.ms 4,376,282 times -- an astonishing 37652% more popular! Obviously, the only logical conclusion we can draw here is that Stephen King is slowly dying of an very embarassing disease.
Why doesn't anyone at Slashdot aknowledge the problems that have been occuring over the last couple of week? Remember that search and older stuff were broken not to long ago. Now posts are not going through. Try to read an article and end up back at the homepage. It is enough to drive one to Zdnet.
If Slashdot ran on Windows 2000 and MS SQL Server 2000, instead of this chicken shit software that you can't discuss when it fails.

Someone needs to do a story on what is going on around here. No one at Slashdot wants to talk. Maybe some other online source should post some articles about Slashdot't persistent promblems and downtime.
