I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his books, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

you wont get an explaination from anyone in charge. they never explain. they sit there and let everyone install slashcode without ever explaining possible problems.

my guess would be a database crash. it appears they tried to fix it manually, but obviously failed, as many comments are no longer in their original stories (ie: go to the story on ms vs. doj, and notice all the "black hole" comments) .

go ahead, rob/michael/hemos/timothy/jaime/whoever, prove me wrong, tell me what really happened ....

did anne take out the database again?

How much did it cost to get to see Linus's speech? Software for the masses, but conventions for the rich elite only? Nice consistent philosophy.

Now that Apple has adopted BSD for the basis of Mac OS X, BSD has become the #1 UNIX distribution overnight. Unlike Linux, BSD is real UNIX not some finnish knock-off. Plus the mascot for BSD kicks the mascot for Linux's ass.

I just heard some joyful news on talk radio - Pharao Ra-Shlop-Rop-Trop was found alive in his Egyptian tomb this morning. There weren't any more details. I agree. While these women have been out "empowering" themselves by doing the same jobs as men, only not as well, domestic civilization has been crumbling. I say to these girls, stop trying to program; there's no hope for your success. Instead, study the algorithm for making me a hot dinner, and troubleshoot the washing machine. Come back to the kitchen; a place for every woman, and every woman in her place.
It's the same with women drivers. What, they weren't satisfied driving the vacuum cleaner?
