I'd really like to use it, but I've already got a mature GUI for my OS.

    It's called Windows 2000.

  4. A bit of thought on the evolution of the GNOME. by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Flamebait

In the beginning, QT, the toolkit that KDE uses, had a license which a
few people thought was too strict. So they decided to make their own
desktop environment, and they called it GNOME. Since an X toolkit had
been developed for the graphics program "The Gimp", the GNOMErs
decided to build their desktop environment using The Gimp Toolkit
    (GTK).

So, the GNOMErs looked at KDE, and they looked at Windows. They took
what they thought were the best parts of each, and the moulded it
together with the GTK to form GNOME. Some people think that GNOME is
far better than both Windows and KDE. Lately, the GNOME has got a
valuable addition: Open Office, the remnants of StarOffice. This would
really make it possible for GNOME to gain acceptance in the desktop.

Several commercial companies think that the GNOME is a viable business
enterprise. Eazel and Ximian are the most productive GNOME companies,
and they are releasing high quality GNOME applications even as we
speak. Ximian is distributing a GNOME distribution that is easy to
    install over the Internet.

Now, QT is released under the GPL and thus the goal of the GNOME
project has been met (i.e., having a free "as in speech" desktop
environment). Since this means that there is no further use of the
GNOME project, I just don't understand why the talented GNOME
developers don't start developing for the KDE instead? Is it because
the GNOMErs only know how to code in C, and not in C++. There are
several good books and web sites on C++ programming, you know. Or if,
they still don't understand C++, why don't they help out the Linux
kernel developers? They definitely need more brains since the quality
of the developers has gone down drastically the last few years.

Who the fuck cares, just because there's an offtopic moderation choice, doesn't mean people have to use it. I and other people are interested in the link and that's all that matters, I don't exactly see any kde3 articles being posted recently, I think this person was justified in posting.

I love catching these kind of moderators in metamod. I hardly ever give anyone fair for modding someone down unless the person was obviously a troll. I usually leave it be, and if it's anyway iffy on the moderation I'll mark it unfair. Don't like this? Then fucking stop modding people down! Let them post at 1, just don't mod em up.

It pisses me off when people vote down a perfectly valid comment that has to do along the same lines as the story, just because it's not exactly on topic. Which is why I'm posting this as AC. Because I'd probably instantly moderated down to -1 offtopic (which I am, but hey). Normally I wouldn't care, but that affects my normal account and what I can post at.
