GOVNET In the Works

Whatever happened to government not being above the people?" Clarke is the guy who's been crying "cyber Pearl Harbor" for a few years; apparently if you cry wolf long enough you get promoted. His request (.doc format) is informative. I should point out that the U.S. military already has such a network (I'm not even going to ask why the Feds can't piggy-back on it), so GOVNET would be for critically-important government agencies like the Department of Agriculture to communicate.

It is rather boring reading the same stuff over and over and over again. When I first discovered /. I thought it seemed interesting...until I discovered the absolute Linux bias, Microsoft is Evil and the American Gov is .. u know, dodgy. Thing is, that's all you get on here, even on normal stories someone always slips a little comment in.
/. and gripe, and conspire and blacken people is testament to those people (again just like me and you) who have fought and died to give you that right. (No, I dont even consider putting my name up with those people who have lost their lives, I know I'm gutless in the main) But real people, heroic people from your country have fought for it, and died for it, and what can you do? I used to have a lot of faith in the human race, but really, the Internet has knocked that out of me. Common sense it seems just doesn't exist. It really does just become pointless arguing about it. I think the thing that is really annoying is that those who moan about all of this conspiricy crap - have they experienced anything bad? Has the government snatched members of their families and performed experiments on them? I don't think so. The government (shock horror) is composed of people like you and me, normal people who have normal interests at heart. Yes, there are maniacs, yes there are radicals, but the purpose of democracy means those are usually routed out before we trust them with power. We elect the government remember? Oh yeah! We do, doh.
Sadly, the world isnt a nice place. Right now some poor sod is probably lined up against a wall with a row of AK47's pointing at him/her, for what? Saying something against their radical, maniac government? Wrong sexuality? Hey! Maybe even nothing at all because a show of force might be needed on that day. Have you experienced that lately?

It is a crazed government that is showing so much discipline against, lets face it, muslims? It's just not fair, you people bring me to tears being so critical. Would you go live in Afganistan? Would you want to? They are atrocious now, imagine if they were ruling a superpower- the world would have ceased to exist long ago. America has never overtly threatened another country, it stands as a shrine to all that is good, and right about democracy and the free world. Who, I ask, has their heads screwed on correctly? George Bush, a presentable man in a suit? Or some rag head maniac delivering bullshit from a cave?

Think about what you have now. Those spooks, crazy as it seems, are doing their shit to protect what you have. Your soldiers (fighting now) are doing what they do for YOU, so when you sit down to start work some fuckhead in an airplane doesnt spoil your day.
I'll be honest, I don't exactly know why bin Laden the fucker hates the US so much, but what I do know is: flying a plane into a skyscraper full of civilians is, is..well it's just evil. Anyone at all who backs that shouldn't have the right to live on this planet- unless I've got it all mixed up and that's how we should live our lives?

Grow up. Realise what you have and why its worth protecting. Realise that those who are doing the protecting are doing it in your interests, no-one elses. Secrecy is a necessary part of it, deal with it. Unless you have something to hide, don't moan about them watching you.
Actually...I was just thinking of something there, forget that last bit..we should all have a right to privacy, thats fair enough
