Senate Trashes Civil Liberties; House to Vote Today
The U.S. Senate passed its version of the "anti-terrorism" legislation last night. The Washington Post, CNN, and Wired all have stories. There are terrorists under every rock, and we must destroy our freedom in order to save it. Remember: gamblers are terrorists too. The House is apparently going to drop their version of the legislation and vote on a copy of the Senate bill.
Let me try to give you an analogy for Slashdot's homepage. It's like an anal raping: it's a combination of cock and shit and cum and blood and more. Over the years, we've figured out homosexuals are best on Slashdot. The ultimate goal is, of course, to create an anal buffet that I enjoy eating: by 8pm, I want to see a dozen sloppy asses lined up and waiting for my penetrational whims on Slashdot. What about the collective silence regarding the Federal Government's continued violation of the Tenth Amendment?
What about the disarming of law abiding American Citizens who wish to exercise their HUMAN RIGHT of self-defense not to mention their CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to keep and bear arms.
BTW, if you are between the ages of 18 and 45, a US Citizen, etc then by law (Federal & California) you are a member of the militia. Why then do they make it so difficult to "keep and bear arms"????

Its hardly the mutually exclusive choice that you make it out to be.
If it means giving up the "freedom" to illegally gamble at off shore casinos... I can live with that.
If it means that the government can "eavesdrop" over an insecure medium such as the internet.. fine.
If it means a very sensical restructuring of goverment wiretap laws, I'm fine with that.
Basically theres nothing to get excited about here. I know these so called privacy groups have to raise a rucus in order to keep people contributing to their cause, but really its sick to see them exploiting a rather level headed bill for their own ends.

The ACLU? Are you kidding? They're too busy trying to shut down nativity scenes to worry about things like this. They are about the last group that I'd want to depend on to defend our freedoms. There is nothing wrong with the government. Politicians have to make deals. That is how laws get passed. Big business? Is that the problem? I don't think I have EVER seen anyone complain here when they recieve the benefits of those big business deals.
Fact of the matter is, there are people out there trying to kill us. Having been shot at for real in my life, I would have to say yes, if I have to be inconvienced for a little while to save my life

The sad thing is that there are millions and millions of people being denied basic rights that most of you seem to have taken for granted. You believe that you have the right to say here whatever you want about religion? Fine. Then go fight the Taliban and others, so that others can finally have the rights you were given at birth.
Ah, just as I thought. You want to see the world change for you, and rights are just something you think you are owed. If you saw someone about to murdered, would you try to save them? I doubt it.
People like those posting just don't get it, and when the going gets tough, they get going.
But since it seems we are deciding here who should have rights, and who shouldn't, I say you shouldn't.
