Ars Technica OS X 10.1 Review
Joystickit writes: "John Siracusa over at Arstechnica has posted his review of OS X 10.1. He comes to the conclusion that 10.1 is much improved but still leaves much to be desired. It is an excellent read. He always seems to have the most in-depth reviews. Check it out." John's earlier OS X reviews are excellent as well; seeing what Apple does right and wrong is informative reading no matter what OS you prefer.
LONG LIVE NeXTSTEP!!!
Guttermouth is a really good band.
Windows rules. Plain and simple. Linux and Mac OS are just wanna bes. They can burn in bloody hell!
no one cares about mac's any why as why do it make a diffrence
You just don't get it, do you? No matter what Apple does, MacOS will always suck. IT WILL NEVER BE POPULAR. EVER. Releasing it for x86 would just kill Apple, which is dying fast enough already. Anyway, Apple makes all its money off charging way too much for hardware, so it has no incentive to release MacOS for x86s.
The article states that the update is obtained:
However, no update is available by download. That's getting kinda screwy. Even MS makes service packs available by download. Did a bean counter at Apple figure out that distributing tons of free CDs to stores is cheaper than the bandwidth? Yet they must be making a profit on the mail orders, as a CD-ROM costs only $1 to stamp and package, then add a few bucks for postage and let a distributor take care of the rest.
Anyone else find this weird?
Open "My Computer" right click on CD drive, select create shortcut. Click yes. Your problem is now solved.
The funny thing, reading all this, is that most of you dorks have no idea what you're talking about. Good to see things don't change here at Slapdick.
This topic on Slashdot should be completely killed because the article it points to is NOT about 10.1.
It's about 10.0.x!!!! Hence the "Prelude to 10.1" in the title. Prelude. BEFORE 10.1.
The article NEVER mentions 10.1, but DOES very obviously say 10.0.2, 10.0.4....
Geez, guys. Really sloppy move here.
timothy, Joystickit.... Do a little more careful reading next time.
Sad.
Macintosh humor! MacComedy.com
Somebody says that Microsoft ripped off MacOS completely when they made Windows 95.
;)
You point out two ways that the Windows 95 interface is superior to the MacOS interface is supposedly copied.
Completely missing the point, numerous Mac fans jump in pointing out the "fixes" Apple incorporated into OS X *six years* after Win95 came out. Not are most of the posts redundant, but they all seem to have been modded up as well.
Never mind that the Dock still is way more awkward than the Windows Taskbar, and many Mac CDROMs still don't have eject buttons. Dragging the CD-ROM (or floppy) to the trash can is horribly unintuitive, and it took them seventeen years and they still haven't fully fixed it.
Quite amusing.
(Note to Mac fans: Pointing how the OS X interface matches features to the Win95 interface isn't going to win any converts. If you like the Mac interface, you like the Mac interface... many people prefer the Mac interface to the Windows interface. But every time you point out the Mac is playing catch-up to the Windows interface, you lose points...)
If this is what is required to make OSX useable, Apple is finished. Memory is cheap but you have to market to what the average Mac owner already has.
I can practically assure you that very few Mac users have 512MB desktop systems.
Good luck Apple.
Your post is illogical and NOT FUNNY you cocksucker!!
