MS Settlement: Six States (And Samba) Say "Stop!"

Masem writes "The BBC is reporting that because 6 states have refused to agree to the settlement between Microsoft and the DOJ, Microsoft is conceeding that a settlement adjustment will not be possible, opening the door for Judge Kollar-Kotelly to begin rapid remedy hearings. There is a slim chance that negotiations might happen before the end of business today (Tuesday) that will allow the settlement to go after several refinements over the last few nights, but few expect any success. While Judge Kollar-Kotelly is promising to resolve the issue as fast as possible, legal experts are projecting a drawn out battle, with the additional time no longer on Microsoft's side. No word on which states were on which side, beyond MA being very much against the settlement and IL being for it." Besides the states, the Samba team has its own objections, below.

Jeremy Allison and Andrew Tridgell of the Samba team have posted a brief analysis of what the current settlement proposal would mean to that project. (Thanks, jdfox.) Considering that Samba is one of the most important links between open and closed software, it's worth mulling over.

As opposed to the Clinton administration which brought this case and is known to have pardoned criminals who made campaign contributions?

    What a troll.

The tech slide was caused by people blowing millions of VC on Aeron chairs and hiring rock stars to play at huge parties instead of spending that money hiring people to develop a product.

And if you lost a bunch of money in MS stock during the crash... Good. Serves you right for trying to profit from their illegal actions. Stockholders need to face stiffer penalties for investing in companies they know are breaking the law.

    You said, speaking of pardons:

"This was one of the last acts that the Clinton government did."

No shit, fuckwit. I was pointing out that the last act of EVERY presidency is pardoning a bunch of people that do not deserve pardons. Your bias against Clinton was showing through by trying to nitpick on HIS pardons.

"Also, there was a mere observation that the Clinton government was known to be corrupt while any speculation about Bush being corrupt is just that."

Sure. Let's see who has benefited from Dubya and Asscop. Microsoft for one. Have Microsoft executives been to the White House? Of course they wouldn't even THINK about talking about the years long anti-trust case. Of course not. Then there were the pharmaceutical executives, and lo and behold here comes a prescription drug card proposal that only benefits the manufacturers and not the pharmacies! Coincidence?

Then there were the secret energy meetings which produced an energy plan that looks like it was written by Ken Lay from Enron. "The Clinton government was known to be corrupt." At least Clinton tried to hide it a little better. Dubya is a cracker who is destined to be a one-termer just like his Daddy.

Oh, to answer your 'wonderful' point that, "We're comparing Clinton's administration which started this case to Bush's which abandoned the case", the reason that Bush abandoned the case was MONEY IN HIS POCKETS. i.e. BRIBERY.

    Thanks for playing!

Ok, you're now officially a moron. Read this slowly and I will shout a little so that you understand:

Clinton did that - he was corrupt. It's not nitpicking to expect that criminals don't get away scot free because they pay off politicians. IT IS NOT A NITPICK, YOU MORON!

FYI, Nixon was pardoned at the beginning of LBJ's term, not the end. Also, there is a difference between pardoning a person because of a personal bias about the nature of the crime and doing it BECAUSE THEY CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR CAMPAIGN.

Presidents meet with executives from a variety of companies for a variety of reasons. You just show your lack of a brain when you speculate that every meeting involves a secret exchange of money.

Then there were the secret energy meetings which produced an energy plan that looks like it was written by Ken Lay from Enron.

Oh, it was so secret that only the people present and the liberal propoganda machine knew about the meetings and what was talked about. Something is either a secret or it is not. The rest is mere speculation. I don't expect a brainwashed moron to understand that.

the reason that Bush abandoned the case was MONEY IN HIS POCKETS. i.e. BRIBERY.

It is equally reasonable to presume that the reason this case was started in the first place was because of BRIBERY by the competitors.

The hilarious part of this is that I'm actually a Clinton supporter. You just seem too stupid to have an intelligent debate with. Let me know when you've stopped wearing those diapers and moved out of your moms house and then maybe we can talk.
