KDE 2.2.1, On Win32/Cygwin

m_ilya writes: "It looks like KDE 2.2.1 has been ported on Cygwin. More than year ago I was forced to use WinNT at work, and I've been missing the Linux desktop a lot. I hope if I will be ever forced to use Windows again I would be able to have more Unix-friendly desktop :). Here's the announcement. Kudos to all the KDE hackers." What's the point? Why run KDE? Windows is more professional, easier on the eyes, and more stable despite the Linux propeganda.

Windows doesn't have major problems with data corruption. Only an operating system that was written by a bunch of amatures, not tested or debugged would have this.. oh wait.

who cares! I mean really, what is the damn point? If you (or some company) feel the need for KDE then run it on a platform it was intended for such as Linux of one of the BSDs. Let's see, maybe some huge corp will try this out because it is *so* cool and then be just utterly compelled to convert their systems to some Unix variant! It could happen, just not in any kind of sane world. Face it, Windows Explorer shell is heads and shoulders better than anything in Unix land ever will be when kludged on top of Windows. Such a waste of brainpower on stupid, meaningless projects makes me sick.

Wow, this is amazing. I use Windows a lot, and I've gotten tired of its high-quality, fully-integrated windowing system and amazing GUI development libraries. Now, finally, I can experience a third-rate Cheap Software GUI on my Windows system! I can't wait to get that half-finished, tacked-on feel that is common among all GUN-Lunix windowing systems! Fuck you, KDE! Oops, I mean thank you, KDE! Thank you!

However the current COST of a Qt license is hurting Linux. By that I mean, they are hurting the small software developer

Blah Blah Blah. We've heard this one before. I'f you're going to be producing commercial software for windows with Qt you have to pay, what, about $1200 to Trolltech? It's at least a long-term license too.

Tell me something, if you plan on making less than that amount of money on your product, perhaps you should consider GPLing it anyways...?

instead of fscking around with porting some hokey desktop manager to windows, why not work on creating an opensource VMWare clone, which can run any friggin OS I choose w/o having to resort to slow, buggy hacks w/ little or no utility to a vast majority of people?
