Universal to Copyprotect All CDs

angkor wrote in with a link to a story about how Universal Plans to copyprotect all CDs which will render them unplayable on Macs, DVD Players, PS2s, and some CD Players. And it won't even stop people from ripping MP3s I bet.

Before you flame, please realize that I've come to realize that this is the only forum in which to make this pleading.

This message is to the guy on the 9th floor that doesn't flush his nest. It's really getting annoying. We have no idea why you leave it there. Some suppose that you want others to nest as well, and by leaving your next on the toilet, that others will follow suit, promoting germless crapping.

Others suppose that it's a religious thing. Weird man, change religions.

    This is _SO_ stupid.

And it pisses me off so bad, that it's likely that I'll go buy the CD, rip it, even if I have to do it at 1x and then take the stinkin' thing back. Then post it on NNTP...or elsewhere...

That way, we can at least even out the fair use rights thing. For all the users that don't get to fully use their CD, there should be lots of people that get extra-ordinary rights...

The world's largest record company will be the first of the major labels to release a copy-protected CD in the United States, signaling a new chapter in the industry's efforts to stem music piracy. When Universal Music Group on Tuesday releases the soundtrack, ``Fast & Furious -- More Music,'' consumers won't be able to copy the music onto another CD or use their PCs to ``rip'' tracks in digital MP3 format. The copy-protection technology will also render the disc unplayable on Macintosh computers, DVD players and game consoles, such as Sony's PlayStation 2. It might not even play in some CD players.

Mod parent up, and the rest of this thread down. Thanks.

I submitted this story two weeks ago! It was rejected. Sure seems like I'm missing something, like why?

I never understood what all the buzz about music is about. I prefer reading poems and novels, watching TV, movies, etc

Don't worry, it's OK to be gay.
