    Man, I can't believe this groupthink.

    The parent post and every reply to it that hasn't condemned the joke has been moderated down unfairly.

    I mean I use Linux all the time (been doing it since 1994) but I'm getting really sick of this fascist attitude by the people who have just converted from Windows.

      I forgot to mention that the idea that Linux is for newbies is just insane.

      At the current state of development (or the lack of it) recommending Linux for Joe Sixpack is more harmful for Linux in the long run that recommending Windows!

    aint this the truth!

    take all the effort used in xfree86, gnome, kde, icewm, blackbox, etc and combine that into one, and make a fucking kickass desktop! The knowledge is there, the power is there, just too many "little" projects on the side. A simple OS such as QNX and BeOS has a way way better gui and provides 100x better desktop experience then linux can offer. So until then, linux sits on the shelf / ftp / cvs etc, while other, more cleaner os's show off their stuff. Just because XFree86 can do 3d, dont mean jack, its still ugly, and old. Not to mention that 1024x768 in linux is like 640x480 on windows, etc. Now i don't care for M$, but i use the OS that provides the best desktop, and easy to find / use software.
