The Tick to be Cancelled
mr.buddylee writes "This is a short write up, but evidently The Tick is going to be cancelled. " There
really isn't much there to read except the notice. I'll keep watching until
the last episode airs on Jan 24. I enjoyed it even if it was put in
a terrifying time slot guaranteeing that nobody saw it. I think if it
had a full season to find a footing it would have been a real winner.
Ah well, good luck to Ben and his future projects.
And here I forgot my violin. Let me do some calculus instead.
This warrants the brief attention of /.; if not in a story, then in this fashion.

Pushin' 'n dealin', shovin' 'n stealin'
I wonder if Comedy Central would have any interest in picking the series up. I think the demographics of Comedy Central would be a perfect fit for the show. Oh well, that's just wishful thinking. It was fun to watch while it lasted.
Sometimes I just don't get their decisions.
I think this Tick shit is just one more series that should never have been.
However, what the hell do we do about prime time tv? This is crap!
We need new TV!

OK, I need to rant.
The fucking moderation system is broken when we have to fucking post disclaimers by any goddamn joke that some fucking 12 year old moderator might not get, because he is too busy whacking off to read a book every now and then, or even fucking read the item that is linked to a story before pressing that moderation button.
The reason we don't see as many really funny posts anymore is because people are afraid to be witty in a subtle way because some fucking kid doesn't get the joke and thinks it's "Offtopic" or "Flamebait".
If you think M2 is a solution, think again. That is not fucking feedback, that is fucking random slaps on the wrist for moderating. How is the moderator to know which moderation he did that was unfair? It could have been any one of five different moderations.
I don't get mod points anymore, I guess I qualify as a compulsive reloader since I read slashdot daily, and post more than once a day usually.
This whole thing is bullshit. Prior restraint, through the fear of being moderated down IS censorship. Wouldn't it be censorship if the government just made your voice so quiet that no one much would hear you?
I don't buy any of this bullshit. I'm sick of humor being moderated offtopic. I'm sick of fucking snowball effects because moderators never read at -1 nested. I've found that when I have had a post modded up to 3, it is much more likely to snowball to 5. When a post gets down to 0 or -1, it has very little chance of ever seeing the light of day again, even if it was unfairly moderatod.
Anyway, fuck you moderators that don't think about what you are doing before hitting submit. If it looks like a joke, even a little, then give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you just don't get it, and it really is hilarious.
I'm done now. Posted at +2 so more people will read. Go ahead, I've got 50 more karma to burn.
I've had enough abrasive sigs. Kittens are cute and fuzzy.
Did September 11th kill "That's my Bush"? If so, then Osama bin Laden better watch his back. . .

For the longest while I felt I was alone thinking slashdot sucked unless you were twelve.
SA-2002:00] Slash login vulunerability
RISK FACTOR: HIGH
SYNOPSIS
Slash, the code that runs Slashdot and many other web sites, has a
vulnerability in recent versions that allows any logged-in user to
log in as any other user.
This allows users to take nearly full control of a Slash system (post
and delete stories, posting stories, edit users, post as other users,
etc., and do anything that a Slash user can do) by logging in to
an adminstrator's Slash account.
VULNERABLE SYSTEMS
Any system running Slash 2.1.x (development versions for 2.2), 2.2.0,
2.2.1, or 2.2.2, and sites using the development code from CVS. Slash
2.0.x and previous are unaffected.
RESOLUTION
Slash 2.2.3 should be installed for all Slash 2.1 and 2.2 sites.
Users of the development code from CVS should run cvs update and install
the most recent code.
In the meantime, if upgrading is not possible or will not happen
immediately, site administrators should either shut down the web site
or disable admin.pl and users.pl by moving them elsewhere or disabling
the execution bits (Apache may need to be restarted following this).
Further, site administrators should change their passwords, and check
the "seclev" field in the users table to make sure no one has a seclev
greater to or equal than "100" who should not have administrator
privileges:
mysql> SELECT uid, nickname, seclev FROM users WHERE seclev >= 100;
That should list only users with some administrator privileges.
Site administrators should subscribe to the slashcode-general or
slashcode-announce mailing lists, to keep up to date on the latest
releases and security notices. Subscription information is on the
Slashcode site at http://slashcode.com/.
CREDITS
Daniel Bowers found and exploited the bug, and
notified the Slash team. The Slash team immediately patched the code
and released Slash 2.2.3 three hours after notification.

You are all wrong
Windows users
87% of Windows users are employed (3% on welfare) So what do the other 10% do for employment? Does being a student count as employment?
40% hold a university level degree Sounds too high, remember there are a lot of punk teens who use Windows.
43% in a heterosexual relationship Should be 95% at least.
5% are in a homosexual relationship So if 43% are heterosexual, and 5% are homosexual, what happened to the other 52%? Or are you counting those who have not entered puberty, like you.
3% have a serious mental disorder Must be lower.
Linux users
32% of linux users are employed (15% are on welfare) Again, where is the other 53%?
35% hold a university degree No comment.
4% are in a heterosexual relationship Hmm...a little to HIGH!
37% are in a homosexual relationship Again, what happened to the missing percentage?
56% have a serious mental disorder Hmm...a little to LOW!
No one has claimed a first post, so this leaves me right open to claim "first fisting". Yes, that's right, first fisting. Now if you will excuse me, I must wash my hands.
Thank you

Since the guy got modded down to a -1, but makes some sense, alot of good posts are getting modded down lately. Disclaimers because 1/2 the people dont understand the post.
Heres his post.

Of course, a "me too!" post deserves a down-mod. But I also am karma-capped...
I think /. should at least try eliminating down-mod, keep up-mods and add a point or two to the scale. Increase the number of moderators, so the really slimey posts will be spotted quickly.
As it stands, there's too much mod power in the hands of too few people; it should not be possible for one guy to make one other guy disappear! Sure somebody else may up-mod, but how many readers later?
I wouldn't want to see moderation completely go, as a low signal-to-noise ratio also acts as "censorship" to the site as a whole, by making /. entirely unreadable.
