German Government Introduces Digital Signatures
bertvl writes: "From this
article on CNN: Germany's federal government is introducing electronic signatures for its employees, a step it hopes will help make the security procedure generally accepted in the country. More than 200,000 employees of ministries and agencies will be able to sign electronic documents using a chip card with an encrypted key, giving them the same legal weight as paper documents with a handwritten signature, the federal Cabinet said in a statement Thursday."

CNN incorrectly reported the prices as yen. The should be Euro
Not ¥ but €
I bet lots of Japanese wish that ¥60 was close to $53....
(This is just like the use of duel instead of dual, when they asked Nicole Kidman about her dual citizenship. CNN has really gone downhill.)

Burning my karma here, but please don't call it Reichstag. The building is the old Reichstag, but it has got nothing to do with the current use of it. The Nazis are gone a long time ago and now they call it 'Der Bundestag' in the Reichstag building.
The Germans use Reichstag to describe the building. The political institution Reichstag is gone a long time ago.

I mean, the people smell bad, are ugly, stupid, lazy, repulsive, fat, slow, retarded, fucked-up, pooped, idiotic, penis-shaped, dingy, anorexic, bolemic, frail, potatoey-hued, small, ant-like, boring, sprinkled, ejaculated-upon, crazy, flatulent, taco-snotted, elephant-like, shriveled-testicaled, shallow, deceitful, shameful, post-nukedomed, defacated-upon, mishapen, malformed, oozing-with-pint-after-pint-of-american-semen-from -butcrack, rascist, fascist, head-full-of-fallow, shitfilled, tongue-in-butted, MASTURBATE-ALL-DAMN-DAYED, ridiculous and just plain shunned-at-birth
Sounds like the USA to me.
Well, it is! They just don't build new ones, and the existing nuclear plants are being phased out.
... a free for Corporations to use Genetic database ...
That is exactly the problem! Replace the nuclear plants with what? Coal plants or Brown coal plants that spew Greenhouse gasses and acid rain components into the atmosphere? No cigar! I suppose the eternal wind and solar BS will qualify as an alternatibe but it will still not cover the 20% or so of the energy needs that states like Bavaria get from nuclear now.
Another problem with wind is the twin problems of "Asthetic pollution" (as in the spoiled view from your living room window) and the problems of Wind turbulence and effects on local fauna. I used to live in Denmark which is pockmarked with Windmills. Ever tried to live down wind of a good sized windmill park? It is an nteresting experience! On top of that there is also the prospect of what happenes when you plant a windmill park in the Migratory paths of birds.... SPLAT! SPLAT! SPLAT! That happened in Holland by the way! All of these problems have ensured that the Treehuggers that advocated Windmills in Holland and Denmark in the 70's and 80's are the Windmill critics of today.
Very unlikely! Privacy concerns have been very strong in Germany, I could never imaginge the government to let corporations access a (hypothetical) genetic database!
Well there have been serious discussions here in Germania about establishing such a database for "Ciminological and State Security (as in Anti Terror) Purposes". So it is not at all unlikely that if (that CSU redneck from deepest darkest Bavaria) Edmund Stoiber becomes Chancellor of Germany a national DNA database for all Germans will become a reality. Once it is established and contributing to a national DNA database is compulsory it is a short step to giving Corporations acess in the intrests of strengthening the National economy. The argument for doing it will probably start with "If we do not do it the Americans will steal the Genetic Engineering scene like they did with computers!!!". Bottom line people will not care enaugh to stop it until it is a reality and they suffer from it. I really pity the Germans in the next election. They have to choose between bad and worse.
