Kazaa Conundrum -- The Plot Thickens
Robotech_Master writes "The ever continuing Kazaa controversy just keeps getting better. This article on Wired highlights Brilliant Digital Entertainment, the company that brokered Kazaa's sale to the Australian firm, and indicates that the RIAA is investigating them."
First post? Maybe... go ahead...
jeez man, just use sorting by comment ratings. User-driven moderation is what this forum is all about. If you constantly disagree with the rating results you see, well - then this isn't your community.
My personal experience: ever since I changed my default threshold to 2, I see almost none of what you're complaining about. A good 60%-70% of what I read at 3 or above is relevant, meaningful, or at least funny. The moderation system has it flaws, but mostly for individuals who are concerned that they are "justly" rewarded for their contributions; the trolls seem to get slapped down before I even get to the story.
posting with my account because i'm not afraid of karma burn.....
Just read comments at a +2 filter! duh! Sheesh man, when there's a system in place that avoids/controlls an issue, use it instead of babbling on about developing a new one. Thats just like a politician
I'm out of my mind right now, but feel free to leave a message.....
stupid moderators are worse than trolls, and they sometimes and often are trolls themselves (since trolls can karma whore just as well as anyone else).. some other form of moderation is needed.. people should be able to read threads and posts as they were posted not as they have been modified by other people's opinions and as they deem necessary.. the moderation and lack of recourse or review of the results by sane persons makes it ideal for the abuse which it is often teh instrument of.
leave peoples posts the fuck alone, add customizable filters for shit like first posters and troll libraries and give people the option of using or NOT using them
good commentary and ideas are being lost to the masses because of the present chaos.
Ok at the risk of losing a bit of Karma (it won't kill me and I'm not a coward afraid to take a Karma hit) I am going to reply to this and suggest something to you. I suggest that if you have a rant like this, put it on your web page and post a link in your signature so people who are interested can go there and then comment on their own. You can also create your own Journal on here and link to that. Or go create a Live Journal and link to the discussion there. Otherwise you risk becoming a troll or part of the noise yourself like you have here.
P.S. Just to save you a bit of time, you won't get anywhere with this. The trolls are a necessary evil if there is to be no (or in this case I'd argue limited, via scoring) censorship here. If you don't like them, don't browse at -1 and if one got through, hit refresh, I bet it will be gone within 2 minutes as the moderators keep up.
Now back to the discussion at hand...

As much as I want to respect the copyright on software, how can the average person who wants to fiddle with Photoshop afford $1000 for the program? Perhaps people would actually buy the software if companies started making prices more reasonable, and the licenses a little less restrictive (hint, hint MS)

I have wierd music tastes, therefore it's hard for me to find my music genre on CDs. Perhaps if the RIAA was doing a better job of classifying things, I'd buy more cds.
I like Classical Music (i.e. Mozart, Beethoven, etc.). But when I go to Best Buy, what do I find in the "Classical" section? 80's classics, 90's rock, etc. Last time I checked, Mozart lived in the seventeen hundreds.

so true. .. so true. . oh the pain. . its coming back. . forntuatlly 2k solves thouse issues :P ..
I'm not. CD-R's, though, maybe. I've downloaded a fookload mp3s from www.emusic.com-- paid for and now mine legally. I'm not even sure I'll ever be able to listen to all of them. I also have about 300 CDs I've purchased in years past, plus vinyl and tapes. I don't think I have to leech from P2P or buy any new CDs for quite some time.
