College Students Are Buying More, Warez-ing Less
Keefesis writes: "This story from a researcher at the University of Florida states that software piracy among college students dropped between the 1996-97 school year and the 2000-01 school year. One reason cited is that software makers have found 'creative' ways to entice students to purchase software(rather than the heavy-handed and largely unsuccessful tactics of the RIAA)."
The 91-92 students are out there in the real world.
Except for a select group of losers. You know who I mean. The people who never, ever, move off campus. Richard Stallman is one of the few shining examples of this sort of person who has actually done work of merit. There are thousands of others on campuses across America. They get that work study job washing bottles in the lab, and they hold onto it. After a few years they somehow weasel their way into the Union and become a permanent fixture on campus. They show up for all the political rallies, and part of their 'mission' is to fuck up as many younger students as they can with their 'political' notions.
The name for this syndrome is 'permanent adolescence.' Examples would be Eric Raymond, Stallman (as previously cited).
This is my personal answer. Using school bandwidth to get whatever flavor linux .iso and freeBSD (just to have) is far cheaper and easier than going to a store. Not to mention, most games now suck or are available for linux (rtcw).
