The release is bound to be amazing, with the return of kernel-secure, a 65MB minimum install, hotplug device support, encrypted filesystems and more!"
Linux Mandrake 8.2 is OUT! Get it NOW!.
PS: I'm wanking as I type this...
I'm in Afghanistan. My nearest mirror was recently bombed to kingdom come and back by the USAF. All I can say though, is thank god I'm not in Missouri - that would truly by hell on earth.
blablabla, we don't care. It's their job to give it away, they have to abide by the GPL.
Am I downloading it? Yes sure. Will I pay for it? No, not if I can get it or any other linux distribution for free.
It's fine and dandy to be l33t and run Slackware, but some of us don't have time to fuck around downloading new source, compiling it, making sure all the dependencies are up-to-date, etc. That's the point of running a system with package management like Debian or Red Hat. When you have dozens of machines to administer and you sit around all day writing admin scripts to keep them up to date you start to think to yourself "Hey, maybe I should try out one of those fancy package managed distros where you can just set them up to autoupdate themselves and someone already wrote all these fucking scripts already."
"If you are serious about linux [sic] and power you use Slack.. all the other [sic] are candy coated slackware"
/usr/local/bin and /usr/bin and over 30000 files in /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib on my system. I don't care how amazing your memory is, you *cannot* remember all the links between those.
If you are an idiot, you use Slackware. Technology has advanced since the Dark Ages, and not taking advantage of package management is just plain stupid, not cool. I can use checkinstall to build an RPM from a tarball *and* toss a list of all the libraries that all the ELF binaries in the RPM are dynamically linked to into my RPM database. Unlike a Slackware user, *I* (on RH) can screw around with whatever programs and libraries I want to without accidentally breaking dependencies that some obscure program I forgot about requires. I'll let my computer handle doing the grunt work of looking for missing libraries, thank you very much. And don't give me the "I memorized everything and I never forget what apps required what" bullshit -- there are over 2200 files in
here
Send me $50 or I'll make fun of this dog...
After installing 8.2 - Lets just say I'm still using Windows XP, and will be in the future.
