Microsoft Kicks Playstation2 out of CeBit.

dnaumov writes "According to this article on ZDNET, Microsoft complained to the show organizers, Hannover Messe AG, that Sony was breaching show rules by letting people play on Sony PlayStation 2 game consoles. While Sony has been letting people play their consoles at CeBIT for the past 3 years, that didn't really bother anyone. However, MS seemed to not like the fact and filled a complaint. What makes this even more funny is that Microsoft officials denied that the company had complained to the Messe. but the show organizers confirmed that Richard Roy, vice president, corporate strategy, had complained. This effectively forced PS2 out of the show and Sony started packing their bags on Sunday. Microsoft was also displaying their XBOX console at the show."

None of my console biz friends are coding flopbox games, nor am I. It's all PS2 and GameCube/GBA.

Yet Another MS FlopBox PR Disaster, so what. MS can't really be doing any worse than there already were before this latest lameness.

    Yawn.

what you're overlooking is a metric called Total Cost of Ownership.

Yeah, I could flip MS the bird, and install OpenOrifice or ScarOffice, but my user support requirements, user complaints, and lost time due to non-proficiency with these tools would got through the roof.

Not to mention taking Win2k/XP off the desktops. It's just not practical. Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done.

OK, I've been debating this over and over in my head. Should I buy a xbox instead of a ps2... There's valid points to be argued on each side.
    • xbox has superior hardware
    • ps2 has the games (backwards compatible w/ ps1)
    • xbox has some exclusive games
    • ps2 doesn't require a $50 add-on for DVD playback
    • xbox has a HD so it doesn't require a memory card
    • there have been some major complaints about xbox hardware and software reliability

I've got to say that this made up my mind. I know it's silly but it's just the straw that broke the camels back. I just bought my PS2 a few hours ago.

I've just got to wonder how long MS can keep shooting themselves (and everyone else) in the foot and get away with it. I keep thinking, "Oh shit! they've really done it now" but everyone just keeps saying, "Oh, that wacky Microsoft, what are ya gonna do?". Nutz to that.
