The Future Of Light - Organic LEDs

pmbarth writes "The filament based or fluorescent light technology has not changed for a long time. However, there appear to be new lighting technologies on the horizon. Personally, how cool would it be to just 'have light', and not have a bright light-source to contend with? Bye-bye incandescents!"

Ambient light? That's creepy... that's unnatural... that's almost like going... outside... :(

I thought that all light bulbs are designed to die after a certain amount of use.

It's true. The trouble is that lightbulb manufacturers are in cahoots with the energy council. Did you know that the element inside the bulb is INDESTRUCTABLE when it comes off the production line? It's deliberately weakened to break after a few hundred switches on-and-off. That's why lightbulbs never 'blow' when they're left permanently on.

Of course, if lightbulb manufacturers started producing these 'indestructable' bulbs, then they'll never recoup their costs. After all, if you only ever need to buy one bulb per room in your lifetime, why spend the money on more?

Flourescent bulbs are even more insiduous. Marketed towards trendy 'environmentally conscious' types, they claim to be more efficient. However, the humming you hear from them is actually a transmitter narrowcasting everything you say to the shadowy offices of some unspecified Three Letter Agency. Clearly, if you exhibit questionable consumer tendencies, such as saving energy, you have been corrupted by anti-American propaganda and need to be monitored.
