Beating the Spam Merchants
Crowbraid writes: "Well-written column by Margie Boule from the Portland Oregonian about an individual who got tired of getting spam,
sued the company for $25 an email, and won." See also Bennett Haselton's anti-spam page, where he has details on "pursuing the anti-spam lawsuits on four separate fronts." (Those lawsuits were mentioned a few months back.)
It's a fact of life. Get over it. Those who keep fighting SPAM and the jackasses who cry about it all day long, are probably sick about hearing about how SPAM affects people. We know already. Just a little seed to plant in the minds of those who send abuse complaints such as "Stop your f*cking SPAMMERS!!!", in 20 different emails. You know who you are, and you should consider the fact that you, yourself are now a 'f*cking SPAMMER' in my book.
Should this person have won his lawsuit?
Sure why not, this is America.
Judges, typically, are ignorant when it comes to the practices of the Internet and they must have heard a well laid out case. I doubt I would have the time to put together anything that would get me such rewards, so kudos to the winner of $25/email award.
On lighter note:
Funny story about SPAM vigilanteism.
I was caught in the crossfire on this one.
SPAM recipient decided to get even with SPAM sender's ISP. Inversed the print on a SPAM email received (black background/white print) and Faxed the ISP 30 times as a token of his seriousness.

Giving a proper email address in a public forum is like posting your phone number on a billboard in times square, and then expecting nobody you don't want to call!
