Short description
The application KDE Panel (kicker) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).
What is this?
An application mostly receives [sic] the SIGSEGV signal due to a bug in the application. The application was asked to save its documents.
What can I do?
You might want to send a bug report to the author (if you can find him). Please include as much information as possible (don't bother, he won't read it anyway) maybe the original documents (if Microsoft said that, you would file a lawsuit). If you have a way to reproduce this error (installing Linux was your first mistake), please include this also.

Bad Slash: SlashCode cutters don't know HTML?
.NET server and rewriting their code using a stable, reliable platform like Visual C++ or .NET. Perhaps only then will the browser compatbility issues will be resolved.
Introduction
Recently there has been some controversy over Slashdot's apparent disregard for browsers other than Konqueror or Netscape (*cough* IE *cough) ability to render the page, and some unfortunate crapfloods which would appear differently in different browsers.
The "editors" (I use the term loosely) of Slashdot appear to believe that Slashcode generates perfect HTML which any browser should render correctly, else the browser must be "buggy".
Slashcode's HTML Output
Just curious, I tried running the front page of Slashdot through the W3 validator [w3.org] to test this claim. The results were shocking.
Lets stick to the facts and drill down into the numbers. The W3 validator found HUNDREDS of errors on the very first page of Slashdot that you view every day. It terminated with the simple line Sorry, this document does not validate as HTML 3.2..
So, what is broken? Is it IE? Or is it the amateur garage-style open source code which is at fault? You be the judge. [w3.org]
Apparently, Slashcode follows the open source coding and testing ethic of "it worked for me". It's just too much to ask them to try to test their code for conformance and compliance, or even just try it on a variety of platforms.
Microsoft's HTML Output
Still curious, I tried running msn.com and microsoft.com through the validator. I was totally taken aback when the validator reported ZERO ERRORS in *either* of these pages.
Conclusion
1. It may benefit the coders to attempt to adapt to some kind of acceptable process for designing, writing, and testing their own code. Perhaps some professional experience would be beneficial here. Certainly an accountability for certain quality standards must be implemented.

I am by no means an expert on this stuff, but wouldn't this mean that the CBDTPA would require companies to pay this dumb license... but what if the companies paid the company NOT to license the technology. Could that mean that the CBDTPA wouldn't legally be possible?
Maybe I totally misread that doc, I dunno. I'm not sure that stopping the CBDTPA would be worth the other damage this would do. But just for curiosity's sake...

Defending a popular opinion (however you do it) tends to get support from the masses. And the moderators on SlashDot are probably nothing special in that regard.
The real problem is when this sort of thing happens too much. Then intelligent debate tends to go out the window...
I asked a question about whether or not this patent could stop the CBDTPA. That was modded down as 'offtopic'. I asked why it was modded down as offtopic (as opposed to being overrated if it was a stupid question), and that was was modded redundant.
I'm not looking to get those points back, but some hypothetical insight as to what i did wrong would be nice. Perhaps my definition of what is off topic needs some modification? I mean, I am asking about this patent and how it it could be used to stop idiotic legislation from being psased, but for some reason this is off topic.

I'm a big fat geek who's traded long hours of work and his formerly less ample figure for copious amounts of money, and I use that money to really enjoy my life. I don't mind being fat. Ideas of beauty have been mutable for most of human history. The Greeks and Romans loved hard bodies, and so do we. But a couple centuries ago in Europe being pale and flabby was considered beautiful because it was a sign of wealth and class, and in prehistory fertility idols were made in the shape of really big fat women. Rubens' women would be considered fat today. Marilyn Monroe was considered the hottest woman alive forty or fifty years ago, but she wore about a size 12, which today would make her a bit on the chunky side.
So, I'm not missing out on anything. I've got all of life's pleasures and enjoy them guilt-free, no petty worries about calories or weight or whatnot. Whenever I'm single I just buy sex the same way one buys any other service, and whenever I find a girl I like who's interested in a lot more than current notions of what most people think "looks good" that's great too. To quote *Pulp Fiction*, "It's unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye are seldom the same."
