Britano writes "Fox News is reporting that the FTC has started to go after spammers and online scammers. So the governement has finally started on the side of the consumer. "The Federal Trade Commission announced Tuesday that is has created a nationwide task force that has already brought 63 law enforcement actions against Web-based scams ranging from auction frauds to bogus cancer-curing sites." Hey, this way we don't have to spend our own money on fighting this problem!"

The 'do not send' box is the 'please don't send this again' response that ethical direct-email people put on their spam.
Anti-spammers urge you not to respond, as rumor has it that one time someone used that info to verifify it was a good address to continue to send to. Actually, though, it's an anti-spammer myth, one that lets them continue their holy war.
The anti-spam people are sorta envious of all the money that the anti-virus people make and want to muscle in on some of the action. They haven't been that successful yet, but they'll keep trying, and they'll protect their market by tearing down any opt-out method proposed.
