A DSL Co-op in Your Neighborhood?

Steve Hamlin writes "In reading on Slashdot about the increasing cost of cable broadband (and DSL is no cheaper), I ran across this article about a neighborhood that put together a co-op for DSL broadband. From a DSLAM housed in a barn to microwave relays, a frame relay T-1, and problems with Qwest, the whole deal."

wow you are pretty stupid. 1.5mbps of bandwidth from my cablemodem costs $49.95 my T-1 costs $1500.00 cant you understand that the one number is bigger than the other? and they buy oc-3's (the booming metroplis I live in has multiple OC-3's nothing like you dream about in the headend for the cablemodem access system... 4 OC-3's to be exact. there are approximately 10-20 cable modem users to each T-1 worth of bandwidth and in some places the ration of users to bandwidth is even higher.

if you think they order an amount of bandwidth equal to the users you are really fricking stupid.

equipment purchased 3-5 years ago? Duh.... I wonder what all these new Cisco boxes are doing in the headends.. we must have had cisco come out and paint the old equipment then...

you know nothing about broadband delivery... and that is painfully obvious to someone that touches the hardware every day.

if you'd like pictures that prove you wrong in a big way... just let me know. I'll gladly take some.... as for the other issues... That is trivial and everyone already knows better.

This is the problem with slashdot.. people that talk out their ass get modded up because they sound like they know.
