African ISPs Being Fleeced by the West

The total cost of any email sent or received by an African internet user is borne entirely by the African ISPs, totaling $500m a year for the continent, according to this disturbing article by the BBC."

The purpose of a business is to make money, not to help out those who need it. You people always complain about the *evil* companies but really how can they survive if they help out everybody else. Remember, nice guys finish last; just look at Microsoft. They have some of the most aggressive business practices ever demonstrated and look how successful they are. ISPs like AOL are trying to watch their asses; that is why they will not help small ISPs like that--because they will lose money if they don't charge 100% of the cost. Just look at the continent. It does have some big cities but its primarily a rural, sparsely populated area. Companies will not make much money doing business on the continent. Why do you think the only continents people really care about are North America, Europe, and Asia (really just Japan)? Because the rest of the world is too low tech or rural to be profitable.
