BFS Creator Giampaolo Joins Apple

zephc writes "According to The Register, Dominic Giampaolo, creator of BFS, Be's journaling file system, has 'joined Apple as a file system engineer. He started last week.' As a Mac user and former BeOS user, I am delighted to hear this, as it has great implications for the future of filesystems on the Mac. The article is a great transcript with Dominic and another BeOS great, Benoit Schillings." Another user adds, "Interesting for a man who once said that Apple was the epitome of everything Be was not."

Fatah threatens to blow up US Embassies and Kill Israeli Cabinet Families. Cute "freedom" fighters. April 16

Fatah's military wing last night warned that if Barghouti is harmed, the organization will target the prime minister and the chief of staff. "We know how to reach their homes," said the statement, which also warned the United States that if Barghouti is harmed, its embassies will be targeted overseas.

*Warnings - and calls for the death penalty *

Palestinian chief negotiator Sa'eb Erekat last night called on Israel to free Barghouti, charging that the arrest created a "serious obstacle" to the effort to restore calm, and that the PA regards Israel as responsible for Barghouti's well being.

Former justice minister Yossi Beilin called Barghouti's arrest "one achievement too many," noting that while Barghouti is under arrest, "leaders of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad go free." He warned the arrest could "lead the conflict into even darker corners, and called on Israel to release Barghouti at its own initiative and quickly."

MK Yosef Lapid of Shinui said that while he believes Barghouti should have been arrested and put on trial, he hopes that "Barghouti in prison won't mean more trouble for Israel than Barghouti free."

MK Michael Kleiner of Herut called for Barghouti to be put on trial and served the death penalty. Coalition whip Ze'ev Boim of Likud called for "a public trial."

MK Avshalom Vilan of Meretz said that the damage in capturing Barghouti will far outweigh the advantages, warning that the move will start a new cycle of violence. Hadash issued a statement calling on Israel to release Barghouti.

Suha Arafat: No Suicide Bombs for My Daughter

Palestinian first lady Suha Arafat tells an Arab language magazine this week that she'd gladly see her son become a suicide bomber in intifada against Israel.

In fact, according to numerous published reports, Mrs. Arafat said "there would be no greater honor" than having her son blow himself to smithereens while strapped to a high explosive.

Alas, poor Suha Arafat doesn't have a son. How convenient.

But what about her daughter, Zahawa, with whom Mrs. Arafat lives in Paris, safely removed from the ongoing Mideast violence committed in her husband's name.

Surely Suha knows that two of the most celebrated recent suicide bombers were teenage daughters of other Palestinian women, girls not a whole lot older than 7-year-old Zahawa.

One of Zahawa Arafat's sisters in the struggle, teenager Ayat Akhras, was even heralded by the Saudi ambassador to Great Britain over the weekend, in a poem that appeared in London's leading Arab language daily, al-Hayat.

"Tell Ayat, the bride of loftiness ... She embraced death with a smile while the leaders are running away from death. Doors of heaven are opened for her," he wrote.

Though age 7 may be a bit young for Zahawa to enter the "Doors of Heaven," surely she could begin training, as so many other Palestinian children pictured recently while dressed in the latest explosive-wear seem to be doing.

Surely the parents of Ayat Akhras must feel extremely "honored" (to use Suha's word) that their own daughter decided to make the ultimate sacrifice.

At least until it occurs to them that while Mrs. Arafat encourages girls like Ayat to vaporize themselves for the cause, she has no such plans for her own daughter.
