Font Company Wielding DMCA Against Bit-Flipping
Roundeye writes: "Seems that AGFA Monotype is trying to stop Tom Murphy from distributing his embed tool. According to the lawyers, the pair of bits in a TrueType font which specify how a font should be embedded constitute a DMCA-worthy access control device. Tom's standing up to them because, 'Embedding bits do nothing to keep consumers from copying fonts' and 'Since the enactment of the DMCA, I have only ever run embed on fonts for which I own the copyright." He's even got his own haiku version of the software..."

Netcraft confirms: Microsoft is dying. The estimated number
of Microsoft employees (Redmond) until the first quarter
of 2002 was 200,0000. The average salary of each employee
is $50,000 per year. 200,0000*50,000 = $10,000,0000 yearly
expenses just for the payments.
There are no "assets" for a company with the size of Microsoft.
In the above expenses, there are additional expenses for
advertising, bussiness trips, "research", construction of
buildings, taxes, hardware, and others. The number of yearly
expenses are estimated around $100,000,0000 and this is
coherent with the number of usenet postings (0.50 cents per post).
The company can only survive if each year the profits are
at least doubled. In any other case the pyramid will collapse.
Microsoft has already lost 90% of the server market, which
was the main source of income for the company. WindowsXP
sales are much below the expectations of the most pessimistic
(many are fired). X-Box sales are minimal in North America, Canada,
Europe and zero in Japan and Asia. MSN has lost over AOL and WebTV
"just didn't work out".
Fact: Microsoft is dying.
You obviously have a sense of humor that is about on par with a rock or some other inanimate object ;)
That's silly. I don't post things in order to be 'modded up'. Is that all slashdot is to you? Karma?
BTW I'm already at the karma cap and I don't care. Use your mod points.

I have to moderate this down because it's pro-Microsoft, but in doing so I admit that the poster has a point about hypocrisy.
Arrrgh!
Just wanted to tell you Tom that you make *awesome* fonts! Keep up the good work!
