SonicBlue Ordered to Spy on ReplayTV Viewers

An Anonymous Coward writes: "Got outrage? According to a story on SiliconValley.com, a federal magistrate has ordered SonicBlue to track ReplayTV users' every click to see what they're watching, recording, skipping (commercials) and e-mailing to friends. The info is to be given to the entertainment industry control freaks who are suing SonicBlue for allegedly abetting copyright violations."

This is a great idea. I find the Entertainment Industry's antics entertaining.

Isn't tracking what a user does in their home (esp if they haven't agreed to it when they bought it) unconstitutional? Something about privacy has got to be in there somewhere... They aren't criminals, so why are they treating the customers like them. This, among other things, makes me want to build a place like the guy in Enemy of the State has...

We should make an anti-gay bomb.... Kill the disease that is gay... and then if that still doesn't work... THEN purge the world of the people... Gay is not something you are born with... It is never a mistake that you are born with or without a penis... Homosexuality is a mistake that HUMANS created and have allowed to spread in an epidemic worse than Boubonic Plague during the Dark Ages.

These are the same guys that made the S3 ViRGE, the biggest POS ever made. The ViRGE was so bad that S3 had to change their name. Personally I think it would be great if these losers went out of business.

    1. The people that plan on using it in the manner that the companys are afraid of, to pirate stuff

    2. The people that think everyone is spying on them and so they complain about any information being saved

    3. The normal joe blow who this will not really affect there daily lives at all.

At some point there will need to be some convergance between protection for the consumer and protection for the bigger companys..

No matter how big they are or how much money they make.. They have the right to protect there income..

Complaining that they are going to track what you do is like complaining that the cameras in walmart are a loss a privacy. They are there for one reason.. To stop crime..

Theres a very very old saying

"Locks are not to keep the thiefs out, they are to keep the honest people honest"

The people that use these things in a manner that is illegal, they are the ones complaining because now the "doors" are being locked and they can't get in easy.

Everyone here spends there time bitching about this company doing that and that company doing this.

The point of running a company is to make money... the ones that don't "Loki" fail. Yet there is a constant bias on here against any company that does anything to make money.. Its just plan crazy
