Slackware 8.1 rc1 Announced

Demerol writes with word that "about 12 hours ago, Patrick announced the that Slackware is now in Release Candidate stage in preparation for the long-awaited 8.1 release. Hundreds of updated to the current tree in the last few months have had all the slackers drooling, and now it is almost upon us. Now, I don't want to hear any more talk of Slackware being dead. Thanks. ;) Here is the ChangeLog and the Userlocal announcement"

Last week the Finnish parliament made a decision to build a new, fifth nuclear power plant. This decision goes against the recent enlighted mood in rest of the Western European countries. It is, however, sadly in line with countries like Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.

I urge you environmentally conscious Slashdot readers to start boycotting Finnish products like paper, high tech (Nokia!) and software like Linux and SSH (use OpenSSH instead!).

I fully agree with you as far as the use of nuclear power goes, but quite frankly you're wasting your time posting here. Slashdot is full of ultra right wing libertarian Ayn Randian nutcases who would never admit that the environment can be harmed by industries, or that the environment is even important. If it were important, the free markets would "obviously" protect it. The bottom line and freedom to consume endlessly is what counts.

The point is that Finland doesn't need any more power plants - the least of all a nuclear one.

You must be aware that this new plant will not affect your and mine electricity bill. It will only make electricity cheaper for the big industries like paper and metal industries for which I have little or no sympathy. Secondly, electricity in Finland costs 20% less than anywhere else in Europe. Why do we have to try to make it even cheaper for the industry? "We must maintain our competetive edge", you say? Well, why not go all the way and exempt the industries from all kind of environmental control? That would REALLY give them a boost!

Oh, next thing you say that if we don't build the power plant we'll have to buy the electricity from Russia where it is produced by nuclear power. Wrong. That's bullshit. We don't have to buy it from the Russia. We can buy it from the Norway and Sweden both of which have a great surplus of energy from the water power plants up in the north. This energy is environmentally friendlier and, yes, more expensive, but it is a sustainable and ethically right choice.

As an technical salesman/engineer who travels extensively abroad I will make it my goal to trash the reputation of Finnish paper and metal industries abroad because of this decision.

There was an atheist couple who had a daughter. The couple never told their daughter anything about the Lord.
One night, when the little girl was five years old, the parents fought with each other and the dad shot the mom, right in front of the child. Then, the dad shot himself. The little girl watched it all.

She was sent to a foster home. The foster mother was a Christian and took the child to church. On the first day of Sunday School, the foster mother told the teacher that the girl had never heard of Jesus, and to have patience with her. The teacher held up a picture of Jesus and said, "Does anyone know who this is?"

The little girl said, "I do. That's the man who was holding me the night my parents died."

      Genuine divine Bible prophecy
Prophecy is foretelling an event in such detail before it happens so as to necessarily require divine guidance. The Bible is a book containing hundreds of detailed prophecies. There are, for example, well over 60 distinct predictions in regard to our divine Saviour Jesus Christ. Here is a sample of just 10 prophecies that foretold the crucifixion of Christ. Not only were the predictions made 1000 years before Christ came from heaven to earth, but they were made over 500 years before crucifixion was first used anywhere in the world as a form of capital punishment! Crucifixion didn't exist when the prophecies were made.

A scientist picked out 48 such prophecies and determined that the probability of one man randomly fulfilling them all is 1 in 10 to the exponent of 157. That is one followed by 157 zeros! Your chances of winning a typical lottery jackpot is about 1 in 108. (100,000,000) Yet, Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies!

Today, the only way Bible scoffers can explain away this astronomical probability is to discredit the prophecies in one way or another. Their only alternative is to accept that God is the author of the Scriptures. The Bible is a reliable book of genuine divine prophecy. You can trust it!

The evidence of divine prophecy presented here is just a tiny portion of the proofs available to establish the divine origin of the Bible. Yet, they are more than sufficient to prove the inspiration of the Bible. There will always be men who scoff at the Bible. You, however, can be confident when you read your Bible that God is the author, for it is written:

"We constantly thank God that when you received from us the word of God's message, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God" (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

The little girl said, "I do. That's the man who was holding me the night my parents died."

The teacher was amazed and asked the little girl about this friendly man.

"I woke up and there was a man in my bed. He held me gently and told me not to be scared.", the little girl began. "Then he said he would make me feel wonderful. He pulled down my jimjams and touched me in that very special place. I told him that my new mom had told me not to touch myself there, because God says it is sin. The nice man laughed and rubbed me down there and he was right. It felt wonderful! Then he said that he is Jesus, the son of God, and he knows this is not wrong."

More than enough time for artistic license, but you're still wrong. Maybe you should've said "Compiled 400 years after the events..." and you could've, probably, been right.
