The New York Law Journal has an article explaining the new holy(?) alliance between the BSA and the highest religious authorities in the Egyptian Sunni Islam sect. The clerics issued a fatwa (holy edict) against piracy, saying it is "the worst type of theft and prohibited by Islam." What's next? The Pope denouncing mp3's as mortal sins?" The worst type of theft, indeed.
This makes me want to yell FIRST POST!
Islamic terrorists are a group of people who commits acts of terror in the name of Islam. True, they have the support of some members of the clergy but that doesn't make the religion itself evil.
What would it take to convince you that the religion itself was evil? How many clergy must endorse bin Laden, how many lay people must stand by and remain silent or stand up and cheer in the streets, before you consider that maybe, just maybe, the religion itself is evil?
I keep seeing people posting "I am not Muslim, but..." and then proceeding to defend a religion about which they know very little.
Let me ask you: Is the Church of Scientology an evil religion? If so, why? Is it because of the action of the members overall, or because of the actions of a few leaders? How is this any different than the situation with Islam and the fatwas and jihads issued by the leaders that call for the murder of Salmon Rushdie, or the death of any American, wherever they are found?
I don't see much difference at all. If Scientology is evil, so is Islam.

I really wanted to say as a "conservative Christian" your opinion doesn't mean jack, but that would be rude.
Given that in polls, some 70% of the Islamic world believes that 9/11 was staged by the CIA and Mossad in order to discredit Islam and justify a war for oil, I think THAT in of itself, discredits Islam, as a religion, a culture, and a people just plenty.

Somehow, buying a product from, say, Microsoft seems analogous to donating to Billy Graham or the Al Quaeda.
True, software companies probably do not go around killing people like the Al Quaeda, but to pay for software knowing that your money is going to be used for evil is the same in many way as donating to said groups. Do you want to pay for lawyers to prolong lawsuits against companies that have done nothing wrong but cannot afford a lawsuit (Lindows, for example), a fact well known by the big company in question?
I am not an anti-corporate bigot. I am perfectly happy with IBM, HP, AMD, etc. though they are not perfect. However, the sheer gall and mindless avarice that certain companies demonstrate daily is a far cry from acceptable to an ethical person, IMHO.
I use much free software and have legal licenses to much commercial software, such as Adobe After Effects and many games, but if conditions effectively force me to use Microsoft software or products from certian other companies, they aren't getting a dime.
And don't forget to purchase Priesthood 4.2, a great accessory to Vatican 2.0.
