Taiwan to Start National Push For Free Software

Andy Tai writes: "Taiwan will start a national plan to jump-start the development and use of Free (libre) Software, according to this report by the Central News Agency, the government news agency of Taiwan, Rep. of China. Due to high Microsoft license fees and also to improve the levels of software technology in Taiwan, this plan includes the creation of a totally Chinese free software environment for Taiwan users, free software application development, and training of 120,000 people for free software skills, as well as efforts at schools to provide diverse information technology environments to ensure the freedom of information. The original article is in Chinese; an English summary appears in this Kuro5hin article."

Use the web, Luke...you'll see that Taiwan is genuinely pushing it's own agenda, along with new consumer warnings etc. They seem to be approx. 6 months behind the PRC proper, but at this time, I think it is safe to say that this action is autonomous.

I am working with the Taiwan Free Software Corporation. It happens that five months ago my friend's brother's dog who was the Chairman of the Committee created to monitor the build and installation of satellite base station was involved in a motor accident on his way home from Tian-Jing after attending a Congress conference. He was admitted in the hospital for eight-point-three (8.3) days before he finally died. While I was with him in the hospital, he disclosed all his confidential documents to me one of, which is the business I want to introduce to you right now.

Before my friend's brother's dog finally died in the hospital, he told me that he has $44M (Forty Four million Dollars) cash in trunk boxes coded and deposited in a security company. This money came as a result of payback contract deal between the dog and the satellite base station firm. He told me that the Security Company is not aware of its contents. That on producing a document which he gave to me, that I will only pay for the demurrage after which the box will be released to me. He further advised me that I should not collect the money without the assistance of a foreigner who will open a local account in his favor or of his company for onward transfer to his nominated overseas account where the money will be invested. This is because as a civil servant I am not supposed to own such money. This will bring many questions in the bank if I go without a foreigner.

It is at this juncture that I decided to contact you for assistance but with the following conditions:
    1. That this transaction shall be treated with Utmost confidence, cooperation and absolute secrecy, which it demands.
    2. That the money is being transferred to an account where you shall take full authority and control.
    3. That a promissory letter signed by you stating the amount US$33M shall be utilize for investment purpose for the benefit of both parties.
While you shall hold only 25% of the total money is for your assistance. Please contact me on the above telephone number for more details. Please quote (PROGRESS-303) in all your correspondence.

For all western countries Taiwan IS a nation, because whatever you do, you need to contact the authorities in Taipei... not in Beijing. Immigration is handled by the pro forma embassies of Taiwan (called Taipei Trade office or whatever), Taiwan has an army equipped with US technology rather than CCCP technology (as China)...

I don't think you're offtopic, but I do think you should have revealed your source. It wasn't until I got to the bit about serfs that I realized I was reading a communist tract. I appreciate the need to explode propangandist myths about Tibet and the Dalai Lama, and I think the description of pre-Communist serfdom is believable and probably not far off the mark. But I think the one-sided presentation of China as egalitarian liberator is almost or equally false. It's forgivable in propaganda that identifies itself as such, though, and that's why I think you should have identified your source.
