Australia's Censored URL List Remains Hidden

kinsalis writes: "There is an article about the Electronic Frontiers Australia's failed attempt to have access to a list of sites which where deemed worth of censorship under Australian Internet censorship law. While it stands to reason that most of the sites would be child pornography, what is to stop someone slipping in any old url if no one can check the list?"

I wonder about people who post as AC as well... The guy was commenting that certain sites didnt work - i was wondering what type of site - that's easy to say - as the 'blacklist' is no such thing and is voluntary i was intrigued.

Im sorry - i thought that was blindingly obvious but maybe i didnt explain it too well.

Oh and many thanks for the personal insult at the end - my daddy however didnt teach me to hide behind 'Anonymous Coward' status when i wanted to have a go at someone...

Let's assume you're a troll, and good enough to have positive karma. Let's further assume you log in to find 5 mod points? Given your idea of fun, what are you likely to do with them? Now was that really a waste? Or just mischivious, if bland entertainment?

and of course working hard as this user obviously has done to post intelligent comment and build up to +1 is not acceptable to those sorts of people - which is why they do what they do and why slashdot is losing intelligent posters in droves to other sites

Here's how stupid this system is.

I'm at 50 Karma (I was until yesterday).

So I posted something. I thought it was good.

    I got +5 insightful.

    Wow. Hit a home run.

Then Somebody marked it as "overrated".

    Guess what my karma is?

    Yep. 49. That means 50 + 5 - 1 = 49 on slashdot.

Now, I don't really care about losing a karma point, but isn't that fucked up?

But the bigger problem (and I can karma whore with the best of them) is that if you know what to post, and you get it within the first 100 posts, I can almost guarantee a + 3-5 on Karma. You either joke about Microsoft, or point something out about some programming language in a scholarly way.

(There are other tips for max karma, but I'm writing a book... Slashdot for Dummies)

I metamoderate every night because I want to make sure the yahoos can't moderate any more, but I have a feeling my meta moderation (which really is quite good) is basically sent > nil.

Oh well. I feel like I'm rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic sometimes.
