Wireless Network or Weird Al?
coronaride writes "This article over on Wired discusses the current topic of the FCC's regulation of UHF's (ultra-high frequencies). Apparently, UHF channels 52 through 69 are in danger of being taken over by wireless networking!" Insert your Conan the Librarian or Wheel of Fish
joke here.
I definitely want the Weird Artificial Intelligence. Sounds like fun ;-)
I'm an American. I love this country and the freedoms that we used to have.
Intelligence is overrated
Mmmmmmm
That you mod me as troll, proves my point. FYI, GOES refers to the set of Geostationary Orbiting Environmental Satellites. The data they stream back is used in the next update cycle for the most important NWP(Numerical Weather Prediction)models, typically every 6 hours.
Slashdotters don't know this kind of shit 'cause they are one of:
1) stupid
2) retarded
3) trolls intent on posting goatse.cx links.
Further, radio astronomy really is fuckheads.
That is the joke...

What Is It?
Pubic lice are tiny insects that can jump from the pubic hair of one person to the pubic hair of another person during sexual intercourse. The insects live by sucking blood from under the skin of their host. You can also catch pubic lice from infested clothing, towels, and bedding. Pubic lice are also sometimes called "crabs" because they hang onto the skin with tiny claws that look like crabs' claws.
How Does a Girl Know She Has It?
Pubic lice can cause intense itching. A girl who has been exposed to pubic lice may notice tiny, gray insects crawling in her pubic hair. She may also see tiny (about the size of the head of a pin), oval-shaped, white blobs called nits clinging to the hair. Nits are the louse eggs, and they can't be easily removed from the hair with the fingers.
How Does a Guy Know He Has It?
A guy who has been exposed to pubic lice will have the same symptoms as a girl.
How Long Until You See the Symptoms?
A person who has been exposed to pubic lice will usually notice symptoms within 1 week.
What Can Happen?
It's unusual for pubic lice to create any serious health problems, but the itching can be very uncomfortable, and it's easy to transmit them to others.
How Is It Treated?
If you think you may have pubic lice or if you have had a partner who may have pubic lice, you need to see a doctor or gynecologist right away. If he or she diagnoses pubic lice, you may be prescribed medication or told to buy an over-the-counter medicine that kills the lice and their eggs.
You will also need to dry clean or use very hot water to wash all your bedding, towels, or recently worn clothing to properly kill the lice and their eggs. Anyone with whom you've had sex should also check for pubic lice immediately - even if you used a condom, pubic lice can still be transmitted.

Just about everyone has trouble concentrating or paying attention in class from time to time. But for teens with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD), symptoms such as being unable to pay attention and follow instructions can cause problems at school and in many other areas of their lives. One part of treatment for many of these teens is a medication called methylphenidate, better known by the brand name Ritalin.
You probably know someone who takes Ritalin because it's been prescribed for AD/HD - and you may even know someone who has abused Ritalin to get high.
Ritalin and AD/HD
Psychologists, psychiatrists, and other behavioral health specialists use the name AD/HD to refer to a disorder that actually has three subtypes that share similar characteristics.
People diagnosed with AD/HD act and think a little differently. They often have trouble in school because they get easily distracted. They may feel bored all the time for no simple reason, lose things easily, say or do whatever is on their mind at the time without thinking, and interrupt when other people are talking.
Certain drugs such as Ritalin have been found to be helpful in controlling the symptoms of people with AD/HD so they are better able to concentrate and focus. Ritalin stimulates the central nervous system. Recent research suggests that it may help people with AD/HD because it increases the level of a neurotransmitter in the brain called dopamine, which ultimately stimulates the attention centers of the brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that assist in sending messages between nerve cells in the brain.
Other medications that also contain methylphenidate may be prescribed to treat AD/HD and include Concerta, Metadate, and Methylin. Other AD/HD medications include forms of amphetamines like Adderall, Dextrostat, and Dexedrine. Some antidepressants and other types of medications may be used to treat AD/HD as well, and newer ones are currently being developed.
Generally medication is one part of an AD/HD treatment plan that commonly includes psychotherapy and accommodations in classes at school. Most experts agree that these medications are safe and effective when they are used under a psychiatrist's or other doctor's care.
Because Ritalin and other AD/HD medications have the potential to become addictive if they are abused, there has been some concern that people who use one of these medications to treat their AD/HD might be more likely to abuse other substances such as street drugs or alcohol. In fact, research has demonstrated that when people with AD/HD are treated appropriately with medications like Ritalin under a doctor's supervision, they are less likely to abuse alcohol and other drugs.
Ritalin Abuse
Some teens who don't have AD/HD take Ritalin because of its effects on the central nervous system. These teens may believe Ritalin will make them feel high, take away their appetites, or help them to stay awake when they have to finish a paper. But Ritalin can cause serious health problems when it's abused.
The side effects of Ritalin with long-term usage or at high (abusive) dosages include increased heart rate and blood pressure, tremors (uncontrolled shaking), changes in mood, confusion, paranoia, hallucinations and delusions (when your mind thinks something is true when it really isn't), irregular breathing, and severe weight loss. Ritalin can also become dangerously addictive when it's abused.
Overdosing on Ritalin can also cause dangerously high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat, seizures, severe twitching or uncontrolled movements, sweating, dry mouth and eyes, and vomiting.
Because of the dangerous side effects, a teen should never take Ritalin unless it has been prescribed by a doctor. And it is also important to know that it is dangerous to give medication away to someone else. It is never a good idea to share any prescribed medication because of the health risks. And in the case of a controlled prescription medication like Ritalin selling it - or even sharing it - is breaking the law and is considered a serious criminal offense.
you have a very fucking funny .sig!!
UHF
by Al Yankovic
Lyrics:
Put down your remote control
Throw out your TV Guide
Put away your jacket
There's no need to go outside
Don't you know that we control the horizontal
We control the verticle, too
We gonna make a couch potato out of you
That's what we gonna do now
Don't change the channel
Don't touch that dial
We got it all on UHF
Kick off your sneakers
Stick around for a while
We got it all on UHF
Don't worry 'bout your laundry
Forget about your job
Just crank up the volume
And yank off the knob
We got it all, we got it all, we got it all on UHF
Disconnect the phone and leave the dishes in the sink
You better put away your homework
Prime time ain't no time to think
All you do is make yourself a TV dinner
Press your face right up against the screen
We gonna show you thangs you ain't ever seen
If you know what I mean, now
Don't change the channel
Don't touch that dial
We got it all on UHF
Kick off your sneakers
Stick around for a while
We got it all on UHF
Don't worry 'bout your laundry
Forget about your job
Just crank up the volume
And yank off the knob
We got it all, we got it all, we got it all on UHF
You can watch us all day
You can watch us all night
You can watch us any time that you please
You can sit around and stare at the picture tube
'Till your brain turns into cottage cheese
Well, now
Don't change the channel
Don't touch that dial
We got it all on UHF
Kick off your sneakers
Stick around for a while
We got it all on UHF
Don't worry 'bout your laundry
Forget about your job
Just crank up the volume
And yank off the knob
We got it all, we got it all, we got it all on UHF
We got it all on UHF (UHF)
You can also find the song in mp3 on the OpenFT network.
I'd say it's my favorite joke from that movie, but they're all so good. Thank god it's on DVD now. And CHEAP, too!
