Ren and Stimpy (And John K) Returning?

An Anonymous reader writes "The comedy duo Ren and Stimpy will be returning to our TV screens on TNN. Seems John Kricfalusi, the creator of Ren and Stimpy, has inked a deal with TNN to show old episodes, new episodes and at least one never release episode which Nickelodeon squashed because it was too violent." Here's hoping that its true- I wonder if John K will reclaim Ren's voice from Billy West.

    From the article:
TNN is expected to bring back series creator John Kricfalusi

It sounds like they may do new shows without him. Ouch. And if he does return, I'd be surprised if he didn't do Ren's voice. I'd be more worried that he wouldn't ask Billy West back to do the voice of Stimpy, on account of West sticking with Nick.

Ever watch the West Wing? It's not suprising that the most "liberal" shows on TV are created by drug addicts. The "liberal-arts" agenda in our schools, which allow these degenerates to propogate their crazy ideas has been way too flexible for my liking.

Ren and Stimpy are like the red-headed stepchildren of Cartoons. I once read an interview where Kricfalusi described working on the Heathcliff animated cartoon series in his early days of animation. He said "It was the worst years of my life...Bad pay, shitty animation...No wonder they moved these things to korea where the sweatshop labor could actually be done in a suitable location." or something to that effect. It's no wonder Kricfalusi is so disenfranchised with TV animation. Look what Nick did to him.

Don't bother. Nick butchered the origninal episodes and neutered the new ones they made to fit into their kiddie vision. You can read about the whole story of how it happened here (at least as long as the bandwidth holds out). Or you can try to find the same story in pages of links (or cached) from Google

It's so great to see one of my favorite shows of all time come back. They were pure genius and few things make me laugh as hard.

Incidentally, I like the blackbar on TNN, but I'm a big news junkie so I'm completely used to my "Tickers" and such. It's not so bad to go to that channel and know EXACTLY what is happening. I like that, and as long as people like me continue to like it, it isn't leaving.

... As for people worrying about TNN being an "evil empire", you are just nucking futs. TNN has ditched it's souther redneck programming because it realises what we want to watch. It's programming is just getting better and better and it is simply poising itself to kick some ass simply because they listen to people and not fucking retarded focus groups. If anything, Nickelodeon are the assholes who fired John K, and continued to try and ruin the show. Look at the shit they run now, think back 5 years and remember how cool the station used to be.

TNN is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. If only they would ditch Wrestling for some gaming news like that latenight TBS show. (Pacific time zone rules, its on at 11:00 :D)

Mmmm, I'm pretty neutral on TNN for the most part. Every so often I'm by that channel and notice them playing ST:TNG reruns, which is cool since my locals have dropped all ST programming since Voyager went off like the stinkbomb that it was. Hasn't been enough to make me want to tune to it, but...

The change from The Nashville Network to the new TNN (aka USA network clone) had little to do with them ditching their programming. No, seriously. The change followed their acquisition by Viacom, which owns MTV, Nick, Paramount, Showtime, The Movie Channel, Simon & Schuster, (most) Six Flags theme parks, CBS, and god knows what else they've acquired while I was typing that out.

Viacom simply shifted all their "hit" (cough) shows over to their country channel (the name of which escapes me, but I just woke up and haven't had coffee, so forgive me), which left them with a whole channel to populate with Viacom-owned media.

So TNN is owned by an evil empire (one that's controlled with an iron fist by "Unkie Sumner" - Sumner Redstone to non-ex-employees), and a growing one at that. Certainly not as evil as the Redmond empire, but a media conglomerate nonetheless.

Also keep in mind that the idiots who ruined Nick are most likely still employed within Viacom, promoted even (politics there are the worst I've ever seen), and may yet start meddling with TNN - it's still young enough in the Viacom realm that the nogoodniks want nothing to do with it (might result in failure, much like Nick was before it got established - then they latched on).

BTW, Viacom lives and dies by focus group tested. Everything, on every level, gets focus group testing. We got acquired and suddenly everything had to go in front of focus groups - kids, eating sugary snacks, and sugary soda, getting wired off their gourds, suddendly became the arbitrators of our software's existance. Scary, scary shit...

John K. was the reason why Ren and Stimpy was no longer aired on television. Halfway through Ren and Stimpy's run he started to butt heads with Nickelodeon management because of the content of the cartoon and more importantly the fact he was taking forever to create new episodes. That's why he no longer did Ren's voice and was only listed as a creator in the credits.
Ren and Stimpy was funny for the first few episodes but one would realize that John K. only had a few good ideas. The only shows I've seen that "ripped off" Ren and Stimpy have been Nickelodeon cartoons. Like the neanderthal, Ren and Stimpy were a dead-end.
