GLX writes "The LA Times is running an article that explores the idea that while piracy has been the (supposed) bane of the music industry, it has yet to be felt in the video industry..." "Yet to be felt" might be too strong, but DVD sales are booming, and don't seem to be much crimped by illegal copying.

    Kind of off topic, but I was just wondering why the US Government feels the need to help industries that are hurt? Isn't this capitalism? Survival of the fittest companies? The consumer decides not to spend 15$ on a cd, and to dl it instead. So the government gets the idea to copy protect all hardware, which thankfully, has stalled. Or people decide hey, i can get this mexican artichoke for half the cost of this american one and doesnt buy americasn. So the government puts tariffs up and gives subsidies to american farmers? How many times has Congress given the airline industry emergency funds? A lot. For an individual to ask the government for a handout, many look at that as a lowering of oneself. So why are American companies so fast to ask Uncle Sam for help when they trip? And why doesn't anybody care?!?
