Linux Games WIth Guns
ZaMoose writes: "Not to beat on the poor America's Army servers any further, but their sitrep for today featured the following interesting tidbit: "That's not all. We're also working on an in-game browser, linux port, and host of other features. Yes, we've been busy the past week!" (emphasis mine). For those not familiar with AA:Operations, it is a free (as in beer) first person shooter developed under the watchful eye of the US Army. It received mounds of praise at this year's E3 and was released to Windows users July 4th." Well, it says Linux server port, anyhow. And JD writes: "Apex Designs have announced that their GTA-style game Payback is coming to Linux. The port appears to already be fully playable as there is a status report here which includes some early screenshots.
(And their website doesn't require IE. :)"
A large misconception about this game is that it's "free". When you consider the fact that it was paid for with our tax dollars, you can throw that idea out the window. This "game" only amounts to taxpayer funded propaganda by the US Army. This game is no more free than the money an elderly person receives for social security. The person's money was already taken away before it was given back.
And come to think about it, is it really such a good idea for the government to fund a game like this when it has yet to be decided by a court whether or not games have influenced school shootings and other killings by teenagers? If you ask me, this opens the government up to a huge number of potential lawsuits should anything ever happen.
Besides, who knows what kinds of hidden messages the Army could be putting in these games to influence the youth of America. I trust this "game" about as much as I trust a Micro$oft product: not at all!
Please, just avoid this propaganda at all costs.
It's really no surprise that such a person would choose to commit suicide. Many criminals are seriously troubled souls. Many of these turn to alcohol and become the bums you see on the street. Others turn to drugs and street crime. Others like Kan turn to pursuits like criminal hacking because being able to control the computer gives them a sense of God-hood and exhilaration.
People who have these criminal thoughts always seem to turn inward eventually. Some find spirituality, others find nothing. Kan found nothing and that's what we have today. Sometimes there is something to be said for early identification and mandatory treatment for those who exhibit criminal behavior. It would save us all a lot of heartbreak.
No you fucking moron the mission packs are NOT free. They come from tax dollars. That means they come from my pocket. Fucking thieves. It isn't like downloading mp3 theft either. Your stealing actual money from my actual pocket. Fuckwad.
