Mandrake Linux 9.0 Beta 1

I have been using Mandrake now for about 3 years and absolutely love it. I am one of those people who will actually go out and purchase the retail packages of the software and Mandrake is the only one I have bought every major release of over the past 3 years though I have bought a couple of redhats and a suse once. Keep up the good work ladies and nerds!

why not wait for 3.2?

I could be wrong about this, but I was under the impression that gcc-3.2 will be incompatible with 3.1, and therefore it seems strange for me for Mandrake to make the switch so quickly, when there are still some issues with 3.1 and it's more or less a dead-end in terms of compatibility. Hopefully they'll use 3.2 (scheduled for release within the next week according to the site) on the final version.

Oh, here's the quote from GCC's page about 3.2 incompatibility:

GCC 3.1 [sic, should be 3.2] has a number of C++ ABI fixes in it which make its C++ compiler binary incompatible with the C++ compilers found in earlier GCC releases, including GCC 3.1 and GCC 3.1.1

Translation:

I use Debian, which allows me to feel superior to all other Linux users. After all, I have a highly-technical job at a help desk, and being able to use a purposefully-archaic installer would be a very useful skill... if I were allowed into the server room, that is. Sure, I may spend all day installing Microsoft Office, but I have a stuffed penguin toy on my desk, so I'm obviously a hacker. Anyway, it's a good thing that Mandrake is around, for all of the stupid lamers out there who don't use Debian. LOL, M$ is suX0rz! Lunix on teh dekstop is kewl! lolololol
