Valgrind 1.0.0 Released
Anonymous Lazy Boy writes "Yesterday saw the official release of Valgrind 1.0.0. Valgrind is a C/C++ programmer's dream come true: effortless memory allocation checking, uninitialized memory access, leaks etc. Purify for Linux has arrived, only better: contrary to its commercial (non-Linux) sibling, checking is performed directly on the executable, no re-linking necessary.
The technology behind Valgrind is highly fascinating and explained down to the very gory details in the documentation."
suck dong
i'm having trouble understanding how this would be beneficial... yea, we all like free software (that's why open-source is so great), but i think the unfortunate result is going to be that all of these students will grow up thinking that pirated software is legal.
the other thing that really burns me is that they're not looking for any sort of cooperation from the software companies. there's something intrinsically wrong with that.
I read that as "Vagina".
Valgrind rocks
;-)
.....
companys should employ this man (he did work for MS research labs here in cambridge
I found bugs in GDB because of valgrind so hey debug a debugger
also lanch your GNOME or KDE app and report those memory leaks
also has Bzip2 on the CV

read the fucking press release!
Its about time someone posted some good non-homosexual porn here!
I do hope that the moderator whom is labeling these posts as "trolls" has done his/her homework regarding the accuracy of this and following posts...
Hey why is the AC's post modded as offtopic? If this is offtopic than the true parent's post should be offtopic too.

When we moved into a new house a few years ago, none of the pool equipment was on a GFI. The wiring was old (70's) and terribly dangerous. The outdoor junction boxes for the pump and light wiring were regular indoor boxes with open knockouts on tops, and regular romex (NM, not UF) was run all over without conduit -- completely exposed to the elements and frequently in standing water. A 500W 120V light was in the deep end of the pool. I immediately set about rewiring with proper outdoor boxes and watertight conduit, and installed GFI breakers on everything.
They all tripped instantly. Three GFIs, three major ground faults which had gone undetected for who knows how long. The pool heater (gas, with electric control) had a hot wire touching the chassis. It was poorly grounded through a concrete slab, and had been running with the huge metal case hot for an unknown length of time. It was probably passing fault current through the water in the PVC pipes connected to it. The pool pump motor was going, and the case was hot. Again, a bad ground kept it from blowing the breaker. Again, probably passing fault current through the pool water.
Finally, and scariest, was the light. It had a ground fault, too. When I disconnected the leads at the box nearest the light, I measured 15 ohms from hot to ground, with no bulb installed. That would be through the pool. Yeah.
I found it amused that a message posted by /. editor could only get one +1 informative.
:)
In retrospective, why don't they post at score 5 if they want us to know something? Some trolls here has default score of 2,3 and even 4 anyway.
For a long time, CmdrTaco was special-cased in the code: he posted at score:3 by default. :)
Just score:3? Interesting, I believe I saw some people posting with score:4 by default. They must be some big guys out there. :)
This is pretty dope:
