Transgaming's WineX 2.1 - Supports WarCraft 3

friedmud writes "WineX 2.1 is out on the street, get it at transgaming.com. It boasts, among other things, full support for Warcraft III. Other games now included are: Grand Theft Auto 3, Civilization III, and Black and White. Check the press release for further info. And, if you haven't already, go here to get an account... It is definitely worth it." I've been rebooting my laptop to WC3, so maybe I'll give this a shot. I bought a subscription originally in part due to their misleading Sims compatibility claims, but this looks like it finally is truly emulating top windows games.

Why would you move to Linux when your so dependant on Microsoft Windows products?

why the hell do you have to run Outlook XP? there are 3 different MS groupware server clients available for linux. and RDC? what the hell for? install tight VNC on everything and enjoy faster/better control...

your company needs to get some IT managers that have 1/2 a brain.

They are helping Linux become Just Another Windows Flavor! Yay! I'm glad to see all the effort going into making sure Linux is dependant on Microsoft and its market in order to have quality entertainment software!

I just dropped it in and tried WC3... it simply just does not work on my system. I am so tired of this. At this point and after so many years I just don't see the point anymore to even trying to use Linux for day to day stuff. You can't game, you can't get modern hardware support quickly (if at all), and the damned thing is as unstable as Anna Nichole Smith. Christ.

And as for GTAIII... yeah, it runs now. However, given that it's a slowpoke on most PC systems (average game rigs, not monster rigs), you can just take a stab at how slow it runs under WINE... it's unplayable.

Somebody did some benchmarks, and WineX is really really SLOW. This is what you get from emulation.

So your options now seem to be:
    1) Reboot the machine in Windows and play the game natively
    2) Run the game with WineX and get a third or a quarter the speed.

No thanks, I pick option 1!!!
