X Marks the Spot Where Black Holes Meet

An anonymous reader writes "Scientific America has an article describing how the X shape observed at the center of some galaxies may be explained by the merging of massive black holes at the center of colliding galaxies."

    ...but what about the y- and z- shaped galaxies?

    It's the folks at Apple plugging OS X a la the Folks at Disney plugging "Signs".
    But personally, I like to think the universe is running X windows, and these galaxies are simply screen-savers.
