Boulevard of Broken .dreams

kubla2000 writes "Salon has a fascinating article up examining the detritus of the dotcom craze of registering anything and everything as a domain name. This is, by turns, a tragic and hilarious piece... there's an irrisistable pathos to the fact that "FreeRoofTile.com" has expired as well as an urge to take a clue-bat to whoever "thought" to register it in the first place."

  1. Purchase as much LNUX as you want to make? by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic
    Hi,

I have some money to invest, and my friend told me to buy shares of LNUX. He says it is a visionary company with a great business model, and should be generating tons of revenue soon ($$$!!!).

He also told me they own this website, www.slashdot.com. He said there are lots of friendly people who can help me.

He said I should buy LNUX now because it is priced well, and should have great growth potential. In fact it is such a great price right now that I can buy over 100 shares! What do you all think?

    Thanks in advance!

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

Then again, I would say that you are a linux user or maybe even a BSD user with that elitist attitude.

  7. cluebat: slashdotters resemble columbine killers by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic

the violent penchant against 'the stupid' of the world, whom the killers viewed as having oppressed them, was released one deadly morning from the business-end of a rifle. the difference between columbine and slashdot is only one of calibre. you see, the underlying philosophy is the same: 'the stupids' of the world, who lack computer skills, are somehow responsible for the ills of society, and the only way to cure those ills is to 'neutralize' them through violence. the 'clue bat' as it is called is a euphemism for an assault weapon. the desire to commit violence against those who, while innocent of having ever done or said anything to the slashdotter, nevertheless are considered 'guilty' of assaulting the slashdotter through 'being ignorant'. out comes the 'bat', and the bat can take many forms. maybe it is cutting off someone in traffic. maybe it is smacking around a child or a spouse. maybe it is supporting the more tolitarian and fascist elements within governments. whatever the outcome, the cause is clear: slashdotters, like the columbine killers, feel oppressed and yearn not to eradicate oppression, but merely to be on the 'giving end' of it.
