A Look Into National ID Cards

mr.buddylee writes "Last month Slashdot reported a Popular Science story on your privacy. This month the magazine has a couple different articles about the future of security after the attacks on 9/11. Included is a very interesting read on National ID Cards which looks at possible technologies integrated into the card. For instance, how would you like a memory strip containing a digitized image of your fingerprints, your photo, your medical history and flight history stored in your wallet? All secured with what could be a less than secure Smart Card."

From a message posted to a Uni board:

I've down loaded Mandrake (haven't burnt it to CD yet cos I know if I do I'll install the thing and I must finish this course before I risk messing about with my PC).
So lets talk partitions (I mean I can make plans for the install can't I ). At the moment I have partitions C to K all of various sizes but none of them smaller than 2gig, these are spread over two HD (yes I know it seems a little excessive but I got so fed up of losing things when Windows decides to play the fool that I just put things into their own partitions on my HDs then when Windows throws a wobbly everything else is still safe).

So does it matter where I put Mandrake? (keep it clean )
What size partition does it like?
Could I use my 10gig for Windows, Mandrake and programs ?(at the mo it's Windows, programs and downloads).
Will any of my present programs work with Linux? PSP, Dreamweaver etc.(why am I asking that!!! I know the answer :-().
I keep my programs separate from Windows so it can't trash them, is this necessary/recommended with Linux?
Besides the stuff I'll have on my three Mandrake disks (and I have absolutely no idea what is included) is there anything else I should acquire before I take the leap into the unknown?
That's all for now folks You just know I'm going to be a pest don't you? Feel free to ignore me I'll just sit in the corner and wail quietly to myself
    Once again thanks in advance
