Venezuela Goes Open Source

Odinson sent in this news blurb from LinuxToday, reporting that Venezuela has adopted a policy for the use of Open Source software in government wherever possible. Apparently they have practical rather than philosophical motivations: keeping cash in the country and promoting local software development.

    I just heard some sad news on talk radio - famous slashdot "Stephen King Dead at 54" troll poster was found dead in his Florida home this morning. He was 54. There weren't any more details. I'm sure the slashdot community will miss him; even if you're not a fan of his work there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

      I find it very amusing how the original text easily translates with the new subject.

      A sad loss indeed. ::chuckle::

      Pity, I was quite amused when people fell for his troll posts. Especially the ones that took the trouble to check Bangor/Maine newspapers or search the web for corroborating evidence for the expiration of Stephen King.

      He will be missed...

      I shudder to think of the day when they pull the plug on sourceforge.net. People should really be moving to . I bet they won't get much coverage on the OSDN websites though.

    Commentary:

    Notice they say "loyalty", like they have ANY idea of what that word means!

    A few years ago, the civilized world flirted with Open Source, and are paying the price in lost jobs and ruined livelihoods. Now the novelty backwards countries are poising themselves to make the same mistakes.

    In ten years time, the Linux companies will be dead, but Microsoft will still be around, no matter how many times their competitors cry 'unfair' to the courts.
