Linux Backups Made Easy

mfago writes "A colleague of mine has written a great tutorial on how to use rsync to create automatic "snapshot-style" backups. Nothing is required except for a simple script, although it is thus not necessarily suitable for data-center applications. Please try to be gentle on his server: it is the $80 computer that he mentions in the tutorial. Perhaps try the Google cache." An excellent article answering a frequently asked question.

You run windows on 1 partition? So what happens every 10-12 months when you reformat your partition to get that "clean windows feeling"? Do you lose all your other stuff? Wow yer a fuckin tosser. Anybody running windows should run 2 partitions. 1 small partition for the operating system. Do not install your programs to it. Then make a big partition for all your "stuff". Its not rocket science people. Yer probably scared of all the text in Fdisk. Fuckin tosser.

I like the way you stoners always think you're so clever with your secret little "inside" jokes that no one else knows.

Fucking /everyone/ knows about 4:20. Of course he did it on purpose.

When am I going to learn? There I was last night, yet again blindly assuming that Slashdot posters would be intelligent enough to understand that I was implying that small amounts of data go with CD-RWs and large amounts of data go with tape! How stupid is that?!

I should've known, instead, that Slashdotters are in fact far dumber than your average computer professional. Years of using computer languages like Perl and C have left them mentally crippled, unable to pick up on any context or implied meaning in a normal conversation or statement. No wonder you all hated English class so much! Just look at the parent post:

CD-RW are not praticle... thats... arry... hard drive come out... cheeper... peice... thats (again)...

Not to mention the numerous run-on sentences. I suppose you should consider yourself lucky that you've found a job where you're so isolated from human contact that your mental disabilities are largely irrelevant (although your cheapskate attitude probably won't help you when a real disaster comes around...).
