Classic Computer Vulnerability Analysis Revisited
redtail writes "The original authors of the classic vulnerability analysis of Multics have
revisited the lessons learned almost thirty years later. Their new
paper, along with the original vulnerability analysis is published here
by IBM. The original vulnerability analysis inspired the self-inserting
compiler back door described by Ken Thompson in his Turing
Award Lecture.

Didn't make the FP!
Funny how you guys bitch about how insecure Windows is .. yet I note with interest that it is not mentioned a single time in this report.
Turing was also known to have stuff inserted in his back door.
i don't want to be called yo nigga
I always found it laughable when I would here how people used to think the world was flat. I was taught in school that centuries ago the Roman Catholic church used to persecute those who said the world was not flat. For this reason I assumed the Bible must have said the world was flat. On the contrary, the Bible tells us that the world is in fact not flat, it describes the world as being a sphere. I bring this up because recently a slashdot poster commented on how stupid religous types were because they beleived whatever the Bible said. He claimed that the Bible says the world is flat. The post was offtopic and moderated to +3 insightful.
I asked said person, or anyone who had modded him up, for a passage in the Bible that would support his claims. No answer was given. Let me show you what the Bible really says.
Note- The book of Isiah was written in Hebrew. In Hebrew(ancient Hebrew, of course), the word for circle and sphere is the same. This does not have any real bearing on the passage, but it is an interesting note for those who will quibble at the difference.
The context of this section of Isiah is the author speaking about God. God is the 'He' that the passage refers to.
Isiah 40:22 "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth..."
The book of Isiah dates to roughly 750-700 B.C. according to overwhelming scholarly consensus. God revealed to us that the earth was a circle(or sphere) over 700 years before the birth of Christ.
The beleif in the world being flat was part of the Roman Catholic church, but not based on the Bible, so please do not confuse the made up parts of religous organizations with what the Bible says.
