When to Buy Technology Goods?
inblosam asks: "I am about to make 'the switch', but the thought came to me that there may be a strategic time of year to purchase technology goods. Of course once you buy something it is nearly outdated already, but there must be some marketing cycle for lowering prices and releasing new toys. Anyone seen any patterns that may help? I do have one hypothesis: Companies push their products that have been on the market for 10-11 months during the holiday season (December), then afterwards drop the prices some and bump up the product with a new feature or size, etc. I believe this was the case for the iPod ($500 down to $300 ?), and even the Handspring Visor Edge was $300 when I bought it (November?) and then $169 three months later."
explain to me how this is frontpage news? Who the hell doesn't know that there are times of the year when you should buy over others?
You know that new shit is going to come out in the 1-2 months before late November into December shopping season, and you know that the prices are going to drop soon after Xmas is over. If you want to be the first kid on the block w/the PS3 or BillyBox2 then you are going to buy and pay, otherwise you can be smart and wait for the prices to drop through the floor.
Come on.
Dude, WTF kind of retarded Ask Slashdot question is this?
./ is a fucking idiot nest now a days....before it was like Signal11 and that was it, everyone else was pretty normal...now, fucking everybody is a dickless wonder....
Of course the fucking price drops just after Christmas. They pump the fucking thing all year for the big shopping season and after that the next set of products to be pumped for the next year starts up, obsoleting the previous years shit.
It is your own damn fault for being dumb enough to buy shit during the shopping season. Buying off-season always gets you better prices. What's the matter, your mommy didnt love you enough to impart some shopping wisdom on your dumb ass?
Jesus Christ,
why do we need to be bound to a time frame on technology purchases? When the technology is new it is more expensive. As we know, six months later, new technology exists in place of that. Why is this question still being asked?
Trillian is overbloated shitware for fags. It doesn't stay connected, it's unstable and it reports your idle/active status totally at random with no regard to whether or not you're actually active or idle. If you can't use the instant messenger client the service wants you to use and support them by viewing their ads, you should try setting up your own instant messaging service and paying for the bandwidth. Fucking freeloader.
Yes, I know what you mean. Six months ago i bought this laptop, and last week i see this ad for the same laptop. Can you believe that shit? Moor's law triumphs again.
This has nothing to do with Apple. WTF? You're a dummy.
