Chip Makers Selling Fewer High-End CPUs

Lt Wuff writes "CNN has a story about how the newest/fasted/latest and greatest processors aren't selling like Intel and AMD hoped. Maybe people are wising up to the fact that you don't need the fastest processors on the market in order to open AOL..."

I used to be an Apple employee, and Apple used to have this program called "Loan to Own". It started in the days when most people couldn't afford to own their own home computers, so Apple would give a once-in-a-lifetime tremendous discount for the purchase of a computer by its employees, so they and their families could use them at home. No you weren't. You are a lying zealot. No one can afford Apples because they are overpriced and shit, and useless people use useless computers and consequently do useless things. Zealot.

When I got my Mac 8500/150 [goingware.com] in 1996, it was nearly the fastest personal computer money could buy. I used to say widely that it was about half the speed of a Cray 1 supercomputer that cost something like a $million back in 1980. I think the retail price at the time was like $3k.
No, it wasn't. I remember when those came out. Crap, the day the were born. Been using Sun and PC boxes for years, you are full of shit, zealot.

For the longest time the only upgrade I put in Pishi was 64 MB of RAM, added to the original 32. There are 8 memory slots in here, it will take 1 GB. It is still possible to buy RAM for this box, although it's a little more expensive than today's PC memory. 32 or 64MB of RAM with any 9/8/7/6 Crap OS was impossible to use. That OS sucked. Cooperative multitasking. No real memory protection, horrible. It was slow, ineffective, and used only by zealots. The RAM for those boxes is deprecated SHIT, so I doubt you could have ever afforded to 1GB in there, especially TODAY. Zealot.

I used it to bring work home, and later for consulting, for quite a long time. The last paid consulting work I did on her was in the spring of 2001. Doesn't surprise me you havent worked for year. There is not room for mac zealots in money making operations. Zealot.

In the middle of that job, I finally upgraded, and got a PowerLogix [powerlogix.com] PowerPC G4 CPU upgrade card, as well as some more RAM. Rip off. Just used on on a G3-350 BW to get to G4-500/1MB. Crap. It was slow as shit before, and slow as shit after. Crap. Zealot. You could be halfway to a used G4 Titanium if you weren't so fucking dumb and paying out the ass for the upgrades. Zealot.

I still have the original 2 MB of video RAM, but I'm thinking of upgrading to the maximum of 4 MB. I could put in a video card, but there are only three PCI slots. 4MB is deprecated. I put a 32MB PCI Radeon in the G3. Its still crap. I have real computers with 128-256MB of Video memory. And you are still fucking playing with trash fodder. Zealot.

Finally, I bought an Adaptec 29160N Ultra160 SCSI host bus adapter. Oh la la. That chip has been soldered on the motherboards I have used for years. Snore. Zealot.

I put Mac OS X on it using Ryan Rempel's XPostFacto [macsales.com], and it works OK but is not really fast enough for production work. When I got a contract to do some OS X work I got a 700 Mhz G3 iBook which is really sweet. OS X is slow. 10.2 is slower. 9 is crap and unusable, so 10 has to do. A G3 ibook is crap, the keys fall off, the faggot mouse has one button rendering OS X unusable. No person on a Mac is ever productive, so any metric of productivity is null and void on Macs.

The only reason I would want a G4 laptop is so I can do AltiVec programming, but for that I can use my old Mac, it's just not that fast. I'd also like a dual G4 machine to do SMP kernel coding. No one uses Altivec. You claim you do, but you don't know anything about vector programming. SO you are lying here. Natural for a Zealot. Many other processors have vector processing optimizations and instructions. BFD, use a compiler flag. Zealot.

What has given Pishi new life, though, was to install Linux on it. It's my main desktop machine, where I do all my web browsing and email. I have a much faster PC that runs Windows 2000 and Slackware, but I have been doing a lot of windows programming this last year so I can't leave it in Linux. Ahh, Mac fag sells out to programming Windows. Typical. PPC sucks at Linux, I ran Debian (sucks) Yellow Dog (sucks) Darwin (fucking does nothing, sucks , Mach kernel = shit) and Madrake PPC. Shit. None of these run well on PPC, and it's a fucking pain in the ass to get things to work optimally.

Pishi is running Debian 3.0 (woody) with kernel 2.4.19. And it works just fine. Snore. It should, it's a computer running Unix. What the fuck else you expect it to do? Run un-fine? Fool.

Besides the increased video ram (so I can run 32-bit at the resolution I use) I'd also like to get an Ultra160 hard drive. The Adaptec card is running a SCSI-II hard drive I've had for years, which has my linux installation. There's only 2 GB on the drive, so I can't really use it for a fileserver, and it gets unresponsive if there's a lot of swapping. If I got a 40 GB Ultra160 drive and maybe some more ram, I could easily get five more years out of this machine. You are such an upgrade loser. After reading about 55,00 upgrades you have put in, you could have had a dual x86 box with 2gb memory, a 120GB 8mb IDE, a 36GB U160/320, and a decent workstation to boot with a 128MB Video card. Instead you slum around with garbage hardware, a testament to your foolishness.

My Mac is named after my cat Pishi. I say in the above web page about the machine that my parents are looking after her. They eventually brought her to me in Maine, and she was with me for a few months, but sadly she passed away from cancer. I named the machine Pishi because she used to like to sit on top of my monitor a lot back when I was doing a lot of BeOS programming. That monitor's EMF probably gave you cat cancer, you cat killer. Good job. Its probably a cheap shit un-shielded second rate upgrade monitor that killed your cat. Your poor cat. And BeOS programming? LAUGH. Lot of good that job gets you. First you pick Mac, then BeOS, whats next, an Amiga programming gig? You are so full of shit.

Oh, one more thing - the BeOS won't boot with the PowerLogix card. But I understand it will boot with a Newer Technology G3 card. I'm hoping it will also boot with a Newer G4 card. Newer Tech is out of business but it's still possible to buy their cards, even brand new. Of course it wont, your crap hardware is a trashy hack. If I wrote drivers, I would personally try and exclude shit cheese hardware from the list of Ids that the driver accepts. Then I wont have to listen to you trash hardware fucks whine about the driver not working when its your shit crap hardware causing all the trouble.
