State of Online Music: RIAA's Efforts Paying Off
melquiades writes "The NYT (regreq) has a new article about online music, suggesting that the recording industry's war against P2P is paying off: pay-to-download services are rising in popularity. "Largely because of tough actions by the record companies to combat free music sites through the courts, legislation and even through techno-guerrilla tactics, there is a noticeable change of sentiment in a small segment of the downloading cognoscenti. Though their numbers are low, many are the early adapters who spot a trend first." Though the article falls into the common fallacy of equating P2P with illegal copying -- I'm one of the numerous artists who wants people to download my music for free -- it sums up the state of affairs well, particularly in this quote from online music consultant Michael Haile: "Record labels know what consumers want. We all do. They want a Napster you pay for. We all know that. But why would the labels want that at all? Making CD's is like printing money.""
Some white guy at some eastern university will figure out how to break any copy/encryption scheme the music industry can come up with, and then some niggers from the ghetto will use it to copy all their gansta rap. You can't win - those darkies really like 3 things: Fried chicken, blondes, and stealing shit. What we should really do is figure out a way to convert niggers into media, and distribute our music on them. Press the black negro into some sort of disc via assembly line; we could fool them into getting in line by calling it a "welfare line." They might look like small records, but much of the music buying public was born after the death of vinyl so it won't be a difficult stigma to get over. I also think we sould print books on faggots. Damn knob slobbers.
It's the RIAA's fault no one gives a fuck about obscure Ethiopian music from the 1970s? Give me a break.
Everybody should do it! You rid yourselves from software patents too! All kinds of good things come from my solution to all your problems!
I live in Europe!
(waiting for USA patriots to mod me as troll)penisofuck!
The only "fair use" is the complete and utter destruction of all intellectual property laws. Anybody who argues elsewise is a moron.
